2. The stupidest idea yet. Only thing this would accomplishe would be to WASTE a lot of MONEY.

Oh, and on edit -- and get a lot of campaign donations from health insurance companies for Santorum and his ilk.

At this time, plain old Medicare directly pays doctors and hospitals and other caregivers to provide medical care to qualified seniors.

Santorum's plan is to give private insurance companies a cut of the Medicare dollar ON TOP OF THE COSTS THAT Medicare now pays.

The private insurance companies would insert their profit motives between the patient and the doctor, between the patient and the hospital, between the patient and other caregivers.

IF SANTORUM'S PLAN WERE ADOPTED, EITHER PATIENT SERVICES AND DOCTORS' FEES WOULD HAVE TO BE CUT OR MEDICARE WOULD COST MORE THAN IT DOES NOW.

What an absurd, stupid, ignorant idea.

Medicare costs would not be cut. They would increase.

3. "Reforming Medicare" is code for "Phasing Out Medicare"

when this "plan" is a complete and utter failure, no doubt they'll "reform" the system further (because it's simply costing too much money in handouts to seniors) by substituting a tax credit for healthcare premiums paid by anyone over 70 (only lazy leftist whiners retire at 65) balanced out by another tax cut for the top 1% to "enable the job creators to provide more for the working class".

The contempt these 1%ers have for us sector 7 drones is sickening.

5. In basic health $ provision, an *insurance co* is the 'top-down' (working primarily for itself)

and the government department is the 'bottom-up' (working primarily for the patient).

In general, the more of a necessity something is, the more government control (ie collective citizen control) - and less profit-motivation - is required for it to function efficiently.

Why is it that so many people who prance around declaring their Christian and pro-life bona fides are just fine with the federal government ordering up with weapons systems that will kill people but feel it's wrong for the government to be in the business of preserving life?

7. It's like the last verse of the song "Lilith", by Martin Simpson

(a song about Adam's first wife-you know, the one who started the women's rock festival in the Nineties. In this verse, Simpson's narrator questions Lilith about the men of the church, who wrote her out of the Book of Genesis)

"And who are these men, who would style you a demon-
theirs is a vision of pain, and of woe.
They accuse you of murder, and they weep for the unborn
But They're blind to starvation, and they're hungry for war.
