(45,984 posts)Without having read any more than a newspaper summary of the scientists' research which only gives cause and effect (pollution causes smaller penises), Mr. Limbaugh "debunks" the research. "Debunk" is hardly what he did. He merely presented an alternate explanation for the phenomenon a la Archie Bunker. Mr. Limbaugh presented no data to support his findings. Since the Italian researchers are characterized as scientists I will jump to the conclusion that they used scientific method and presented data to support their conclusions.
Mr. Limbaugh merely presents an alternate hypothesis (political action by and for women causes smaller penises). Well and good, but now, if he's really interested in debunking the Italian study, he needs to gather data. First, he needs to tell us if penis size has actually decreased over a period of time. He may want to save time and just accept the Italian scientists data as far as that goes. Or he may want to do his own research. He would need to find a record of penis sizes from decades ago. Perhaps he could estimate the size of a man's penis from a scientific study of pornography of the period of 1945 through about 1970. That kind of research might just appeal to Mr. Limbaugh. He may be eager to begin his research right away.
Next, Mr. Limbaugh must show that there has been an increase in feminist activity during the same period. This might be a bigger problem than one might think. For example, how does modern feminism differ from older feminism? There's always been some kind of feminist activity since the dawn of the enlightenment. Mr. Limbaugh may have to expand his thesis and look at pornography dating from the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920 that gave women the right to vote. Perhaps he has to go back to the 1848 and the Seneca Falls Convention, or even back to 1759, the year of Mary Wollstonecraft's birth. Unfortunately, examples of pornography from 1759 may be harder to find and Mr. Limbaugh may have to use some other source for estimating penis sizes of that era. In any case, he may discover that there has been a decrease in penis size since 1759 punctuated by increases in feminist activity. For example, was penis size at all affected by the passage of the 19th Amendment or by admitting Wyoming, the first state to give women the right to vote, to the Union in 1890?
If Mr. Limbaugh can show a correlation of feminist activity and decreasing penis size, would he be able to show how feminism affects the size of the human penis? He'd have to come up with ideas on this aspect of the research. Personally, I am at a loss to imagine what it could possibly be.
