(3,521 posts)That being said, I really don't think they were all that horrible either. I played with toy guns all the time when I was a kid in the 50s and early 60s. I did not grow up to be violent at all. I do not own real guns and have no desire to.

(221 posts)My bothers grew up with toy guns in the 60s and they're anything but deranged (I was a girl so I couldn't play with them!).
But when a friend's 6-year-old girl was shot by her 8-year-old brother - who thought their Dad's gun was a toy - I really changed my mind about letting kids play even with toy ones.

(26,602 posts)The old way was better - at least we got some exercise. But sticks were even cheaper: and they could be guns or swords!

(382 posts)Maybe they'd have the sense to know what to do with them, because adults certainly don't.
