No rounds penetrated his body armor, and he made it home with no permanent injuries. This happened in Kunar Province, Afghanistan.
*READ* From the cameraman:
" I got a hit a total of 4 times. My helmet cam died and i made it down the mountain on my own. I was also hit in the side of my helmet and my eye pro was shot off of my face. We were doing overwatch on the village to recon and gather intel. I was point heading down the face of the hill with the LT. when we got hit. the rest of the squad was pinned down by machine gun fire. I didn't start the video until a few mins into the firefight for obvious reasons. I came out into the open to draw fire so my squad could get to safety."
"A round struck the tube by my hand of the 203 grenade launcher which knocked it out of my hands. When I picked the rifle back up it was still functional but the grenade launcher tube had a nice sized 7.62 cal bullet hole in it and was rendered useless. "
This footage is part of an ongoing documentation of the war in Afghanistan.

(731 posts)bring them all home now, obama. end it now so this kid and others like him don't have to draw fire to themselves to save his or her squadmates.
home. now.
end it.
or would you prefer this ended with him no longer calling for help because he'd taken a round in an unarmored spot?

(841 posts)This is exactly what the media should be filming...
It was that way during the entire war in Vietnam..
No more insulating us from the truth....
Just maybe Parents, Relatives and Friends can relate a bit to what Our Soldiers are doing... They have been at war now for way to long with no end in site...
May God bless them, keep them safe, and bring them Home soon

(15,882 posts)for no clear objective. We are certainly slowing them down, but it's very possible that if we leave many won't have a reason to join against us, as they do today. And when our folks return home we need to find something else to do with them other than staff police departments. We should have a national quota, that you can only live with war 3 years, then you must find another tool to use that isn't a gun, and we pay you for three years of work in something else. The Peace Corps, perhaps. Maybe building gardens and repairing houses for people with no money. Or give them some funding to learn engineering, biology, business and philosophy, and set them to work on solving future challenges with climate, agriculture, medicine, energy, jobsetc.
We obviously aren't winning anything, and while we are fighting here we had a terrorist attack on our embassy in another country. We owe it to ourselves to deescalate this.
You can't kill an idea with force, only with reason and persuasion. (Observe any 14 year old, and then wonder why we forgot that lesson). This enemy, just like the radical right, is bent on destroying this country, the world, in the process of remaking everything in the image they desire. And we are helping them fulfill their wish.
Outside of this country about all we can hope to do is prevent the attacks that we can, suffer those we must, and lob a missile or two in there periodically when we have credible threats (we are quite good at that, and mostly accurate). Inside, Americans need to prevent the radical right from holding any elected office, also a challenge. Especially when the corporations and the people they have purchased want to enslave all of us, and don't really care who wins, despite all the hype.
In the meantime perhaps the world can put its thinking cap on and figure out a way to change their beliefs, co-opt their support.
It's going to be difficult, because putting it behind us is our way, not theirs. One teaches by example, and we haven't exactly shown ourselves to be morally capable of making peace and prosperity for everyone our priority.

(12,882 posts)just WHY is it we're still fighting in this stone age outpost??? We're gonna what..... bring them into the 21st century? Really? An ongoing waste of lives and money so as to keep the MIC plants humming and protect our generals legacies - neither of which anyone asked me if I'd like to see pursued.
