This is why Romney doesn't want to do the Nicolodeon special... Because children have an uncanny abillity to see straight through to the heart!

this clip demonstrates obama's leadership qualities. he did not use the moment to make cheap jabs at republicans or reference the overt racism that has permeated the last three years. instead, obama was the "adult", he played the role of a parent. he gently explained that not everyone hated him and then pointed out several ways to understand those who do. in the end, obama provided a life's lesson for his young admirer.
a nice testimony to obama's character.
meanwhile across the nation, mr romney declines Nickelodeon invitation to participate in election special, one that has already scheduled mr obama and has included all presidential candidates since 1992.
which one would you rather be a role model for your son?

(53,661 posts)Young boy's innocent face.. Obama handled it in such a way to not hurt him, to make him less afraid in a hostile world. I think in the back of that child's mind was the question 'Why do they hate me?' As you said, he could have been what the right lies and accuse him of being, a racist, but he took the high road, as usual. This is why he is the best role model we have had many, many years. I would say that Carter or Kennedy would be good, but they didn't put up with the incredible filth that the Obama family has endured, and still stayed true to who they are and their vision. Love the video, but it still makes my heart ache, too.

(3,888 posts)i think the obamas are the best occupants of the whitehouse yet. there were other fine presidents, whose families were fine people too but none were as much like the rest of us. the obamas are well-educated and travel in the highest circles. he is the president. but he and his family are real people too. they're like people we know. not distant elites.
while some of obama's policy decisions have irked me and i've complained about him many times, it takes only one stupid racist comment for me to remember how much i admire him (and his family). and i hear those comments all the time (or read about them here on DU).
obama clearly has remarkable leadership qualities. he is cool under pressure, well-prepared, and wise. not only is obama a good president, i'm sure he'd be a good neighbor, or family member. i would be proud to call him any of these things.
i thought that the video was both painful and beautiful.
