Isn't there some kind of taboo here on DU against spreading right wing propaganda?

The idea that high deficits caused the great recession is so dumb that most right-wing propaganda outfits won't touch it. The Romney campaign itself, in this white paper, states, "The 2007-2009 financial crisis produced a severe recession". In fact, our current huge deficits are mostly the result of the recession, as Dean Baker explains here. This idea that deficits are the main cause of our country's economic troubles is one that is spread around on talk radio, social media, and right-wing email chain letters. I live in Nebraska so I hear this stuff all the time. Joe Biden was right to call out Ryan on his "budget hawk" hypocrisy, he just did it in a very dumb way.

I just say if you didn't flush money on two unfunded wars and a tax cut that the rich really didn't need you'd have a lot more money and a lot less debt. That squirelly little Paul Ryan is for either surplus or austerity depending which party is in charge.

white paper and calling out Joe for pushing right-wing propaganda doesnt seem right. Maybe it's me.

Isnt the high deficit causing cutbacks that contribute to the recession?

Borrowing money that benefits nobody but to blows crap up is "right wing propaganda." Frankly, I don't see the angle. Spend the money on the American people and there is plenty of money if we don't piss it away on things like capturing oil fields for the oil companies.

Reprinted:
“They talk about this Great Recession as if it fell out of the sky, like, “Oh, my goodness, where did it come from?” It came from this man (Ryan) voting to put two wars on a credit card, to at the same time put a prescription drug benefit [Medicare Part D] on the credit card, a trillion-dollar tax cut for the very wealthy. I was there. I voted against them. I said, no we can’t afford that. And now, all of a sudden, these guys [Rmoney and Ryan] are so seized with the concern about the debt that they created.”

The Great Recession was NOT caused by the budget deficit or the national debt. What Biden said was inaccurate. The Great Recession was caused by financial deregulation and and the bursting of the housing bubble, among other things.

But I would never say that what Biden said was "right wing propaganda"...
