Martin Bashir: Can't hit 270, Romney hits Obama on religion.

I really liked two quotes by Krystal Ball & Karen Finney. My husband & I have had a few conversations with the same ideas; I'm sure most DUers have had similar conversations, too, so thought I'd share:

Krystal Ball: The Republicans are not living in the world of reality. The base so hates the president with such a visceral, gutteral hatred that they can't understand that most of the country likes this president, wants him to succeed, thinks he's a good guy who is trying hard. And so, you can't have that hatred & come up with a compelling message to appeal to centrist voters that you need to win on your side.

Karen Finney: There aren't enough white anglos in this country to elect a president. I'm sorry, fellas, but it's the truth. And the Barack Obama electorate is blacker & browner, & it's women, & it's far more diverse like the country actually is.

Good conversation:

Their interpretations of the Bible are based on their innermost failings (greed, selfishness, hatred) & they've given the word "Christianity" a very negative reputation.

THEIR right-wingers are apparently from the same gene pool as OUR right wingers! Theocrats. Misogynists. Greed-obsessed. Xenophobes. Militarists.

I have enormous empathy for Pakistani immigrants to the U.S. Those I've known have been awesome and grateful for living here like shipwreck victims are thankful for a garden isle.

I was thinking of the al queda sympathizers in that country and the possibility that they would prefer someone less effective and aggressive in that region.

Romney likely doesn't even know quite where Pakistan is, and would be more easily molded and/or fooled.

Romney and his GOP party have gone out of their way and alienated most everyone else:

Women- Check
Minorities- Check
Gays- Check
Poor- Check
Unions- Check
The 47%(lol)- Super check

They're counting on a base of uneducated blue collar White male voters to vote him in and it won't work even with constant lies and flat out racism.

6. Would it be so bad for Christianity to end or be greatly diminished?

The established Christian church has very little to do with the teachings of Jesus. You know: feed the poor, heal the sick, be a peacemaker, love thy neighbor. You don't have to believe in virgin birth, resurrection after death, heaven & hell, a creator god -- all of which are ridiculous -- to practice the teachings of Jesus. Christianity is a horrible religion. They think that if you're not one of them, you're a heretic or an infidel and therefore a mortal enemy. And many many of them do not practice even the very basics of what Jesus taught.

8. One of the reasons I don't go to church anymore

Even my little VT church became extreme over politics when Clinton was running. From their the hate has grown and festered more and more (and I'm sure it was there before with other churches) but for VT, it was too much.

For me, I would rather sit peacefully by an ocean or in the middle of a field and meditate. The best thing in my church was the music and the passion and joy that you could feel when multiple bodies were putting out good positive energy... I've felt the same spirit of that energy at a Hindus prayer...

And I don't think, knowing men wrote the bible, that they didn't incorporate a few of their own thoughts into words.. And it's been interpreted by many people a 100 ways to Sunday... And then there are all the marvels sitting in the Catholic Church archives that are kept from the public.

Anyway, it's not that hard to try and take care of one another and have compassion... None of that seems like what we r doing here. And the monsters have infiltrated good people and led them astray.. They don't even see it.
