for everyone, men still went out of there way to kill and steal from each other. After Kent State, Ohio, does anybody still have hope that things will change? I don't. I'm sure this will get loads of vilifying responses but I'm older than most of you and you won't change my mind.

Just like the anemic changes OWS has accomplished, the thought that the large changes such as 'V for Vendetta' might bring about will not happen; much to my Utopian outlook's mind set.

On earth today, deaths by war are getting smaller, wars are getting fewer, most poor countries are getting more prosperous, life expectancy is getting longer, diseases are getting rarer, crime is going down, and quality of life is going up. These are over all trends, not anecdotal terrible things to see on the news and get worried about. Almost all overall trend lines show human society getting more peaceful and less violent and more healthy.

There's only one trend line to worry about--rising sea levels (especially once Siberia starts to thaw out its permafrost). That shit scares me. Imagine losing Miami, Galveston, Manhattan, Bangldesh. But the rest of the trend lines look pretty positive (including a general slowing down of world population growth--plateauing out sometime before 2070.)

Casualty rates were about 60% on both sides. Think about that. Three out of every five men on both sides were killed or otherwise taken out of the war. Just brutal.
