(26,291 posts)I can say from two up close encounters, the Queen has the most beautiful blue eyes and most amazing skin I've ever seen. And, a wonderful smile.

(51,709 posts)She was and is a beautiful woman. There's a lot of her in Charles, yet he is really hard on the eyes. I guess those features don't translate well into male form.

(75,480 posts)Often with actors who grow up on a sit-com, sometimes you will see a montage of them growing up before your eyes. There is enough footage for the creators to be able to do a seamless job. It might be harder for ordinary people like you and me just thumbing through family albums.

The British Queen is still an impressive woman - and she was a beatifull woman when she was young. And as other have said before, it is much of her mother the Queen Mother Mary in her.. And she lived to be 100 years - so I guess the Queen will live at least that long.. I guess Charles just have to wait a long time before his mother leave the room for the last time..
God save the Queen and hopefully the royal family will survive for a long time in UK, and in the few nations who still have them..

(45,788 posts)Because there shouldn't be a throne of England.
Monarchy went out with the 18th century.
Call me crazy, but I prefer to put more emphasis on the content of people's character and what they do than who they were born or which people their great-grandfather might have assassinated.

Well I disagree, for some reason I think having a queen or a king as the head of state, is something that make me far more comfortable than have say a president for 4 year, who is bunkers, ruin the country, and just go play golf when he is warned about a horrible terror attack on his own country... (No I don't talk about your current, great President, I am talking about Bush jr)
And even though I agree about the competence thing - most of our current kings and queens is very competent in their job - and have also the luxury of been able to had been on the job for a long time.. I doubt you will find any politician in the world, who have more knowledge about how things work - than the current Queen of United Kingdom.
USA works (of sorts) in the way does as a Republic - United Kingdom have a whole different history about governing - and have chosen to have a king or a queen as their head of state - even though England in the 1600s was a republic for 16 years - after that they could not crown Charles 2 of England fast enough to get the old traditions back again... And I doubt somehow UK or England would in the end abolish the crown - I suspect in fact England or UK, will be one on the last country's in the world to abolish the crown..

The royal line - who goes back to Alfred the Great (AD800 ca) have had a few bumps and bruces - and have changed families overt he last 1800 years that true - And the current royal family goes back to George 1 who was given the throne as the then english throne was made vacated - as the last of the Stuarts was thrown away because of their own ignorance and outright stupidity when it come to politics - and to their religion.. The last of the Stuarts was a die-hard Catholic, in a Protestants country - and he had also a flavor for young men at his court... Something that was bad enough - but also something that could have been locked the other way to.. But the fact that he was a secret chaotic - and more and more opened for the Catholic Church in England was something they just could handle.. or accept... So in turn and other first, they got a dutch king, who was more busy being in the Netherlands than in England - and then a german royal, who was chosen as the next thing, as he also had relationship with some of the english royal family.. George the 3 was the one who lost the american colonies - you might know him as the *** king George who doesn't liked the idea that the colonies in America should be given the right to have a voice in the Parliament.. Something I suspect he could kick his own ass over that idea... The current family, was given the title, after the older brother of the father to the current king, had chosen a divorced woman - an american in fact as his wife.. As the government - and the king was looking down each other, trying to get the other one to blink first - the then current king had to accept to lay down his crown - and to abdicate to his younger brother - who had never believed to be king, and was rather comfortable living as a "normal" person (or as normal as a royal could do in the 1930s..) with his family away from the hassle and bustle of royal mess.. one day he was a normal man, if so with royal lineage - the next day he was THE KING.. And the whole family changed from being one of many royal household, to be THE royal household..
Many can claim they have evidence that the current Royal line is not the rightfully royal - but it is rather difficult to document, and to get their right - Even here in Norway, we have a family, who claim they are direct ancestors to some of the last kings of the middle age royal linage in Norway - they say they even have documents to show it.. But they are not taking the crown for them - in fact they are subjects to the same King and Queen as the rest of us.. (Harald V of Norway and his Queen Sonja)
