(17,276 posts)He does seem rattled. But it could be just hubris--they were all so confident that Obama just couldn't get the vote out like he did in '08. Or he was expecting that his fix would work.

(40,416 posts)Some idiot posts a video online claiming... post hoc... that they protected the world from a Romney presidency.
On 6 November I wished a unicorn who farts rainbows into my garden. It gave me one wish. I wished for an Obama win and additional seats in both the House and the Senate for the Democratic party.
You don't believe it? Well then prove me wrong!!!! I dare you!!!
It's rubbish. Thom Hartman has fallen down the rabbit hole.
Screw this Bullshista. And screw Thom Hartman. No wonder he can only get a forum on RT, conspiracy central.

(26,549 posts)It makes utterly no sense. It's an incoherent bundling of buzzwords.

(26,549 posts)Because that is utterly wrong. Closest thing that would make sense would be a VPN. Which actual hackers would call a VPN. But the rest of their description does not match a VPN.

(12,471 posts)or have nothing on the other side.

(26,549 posts)If you have a set of SSH sessions with a weak key and another set with a strong key, that is obvious from the outside. Those "weak" connections aren't going to do you any good.
Also, one can not create an SSH or VPN session with "nothing" on the other side. It has to connect to something. If you meant a connection that wasn't doing any work, that is also obvious from the outside - you can see that few or no packets are being sent, even if you can't read the contents of the packets.
Additionally, if Anonymous can crack into "strong" SSH or VPN sessions in order to block Rove's efforts, then it's even more important for them to go public so those protocols can be fixed - lots of critical things rely on those protocols working as the math says. And I have a lot of trouble believing a random guy in Anonymous figured this out when millions of PHDs and other analysts can't figure out a way to break it.
So again, the letter still makes no technical sense.
RoccoR5955
(12,471 posts)That you do not understand these networking concepts. I believe that this is why you do not believe that the letter makes no sense.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)That makes your post completely believable.

(12,471 posts)Do you think that the folks in Anonymous want to end up in a similar situation as Bradley Manning? (Not the same situation, because of the military implications) Surely if Anonymous posted something it would be viewed by those in the Justice Department as a crime. Not to mention some of those people in government would feel that it would make people lose faith in the election systems in the US, and thus, call them terrorists.
But I guess to some, it wouldn't matter if someone who did this ended up in Guantanamo.

(26,549 posts)An international organization is incapable of hosting a web site outside the US?
These guys are super-hackers that can thwart Rove, but they're so dumb they can't cover their tracks when publishing their findings?
They've never heard of TOR?
They can't simultaneously be geniuses and morons in the same subject.
Anyway, the gigantic point you are missing:
The way to replace the DRE machines quickly is to publish an election-day hack. All 'hacks' so far have required access to the ports on the voting machines or the software running on the voting machines/tabulators. The various Secretaries of State can pretend that blocking the ports and protecting the software has them covered.
This hack, if it happened, would explode all that. It would make it very easy to get the SoS to replace the machines.

(12,471 posts)I'm sorry, but I don't think that any one of us should have to write a networking manual for anyone. People wouldn't understand it. These things are complicated, and Anonymous uses colorful language to describe it. Sometimes archaic, but colorful.
I don't understand why these people keep insisting that Anonymous reveal their code, and paint a great big target on their back.
The concepts of advanced networking are not for the uninitiated into the field. Most of our techs don't understand how a lot of this stuff works. No matter how simple it's explained to them.
So unless you are a network administrator, network technician, systems programmer, or the like, YOU should simply STFU!

(45,984 posts)This one comes with enough prior information to make it worth looking at.
We know something was up in Ohio. Secretary Husted, to the last minute, was doing everything he could to give The Twit an unfair advantage. His co-conspirator in this instance would be Karl Rove, and there is very little, including murder, that I would put past Rove. That is not to say he ever murdered anyone, but I don't think it's beyond him. He was almost certainly in on the plot to steal Ohio's vote in 2004. There is evidence to suggest that what is talked about here was in fact done in Ohio in 2004. And Anonymous has the capability to do what it, or whoever is claiming to be from Anonymous, claims to have done in this instance.
The only person we can name who could confirm that this is factual is Karl Rove himself, or any of his worker bees. Of course, Rove is not going to confirm it, since to do so would be incriminating.
So, this is one CT that is quite possibly true.

(1 post)Leaving aside any thought of what Rove intended to do, let's try to find out if any firewall was actually in place.
Assume for a moment that someone had blocked access from Fox studios in NY, to the Ohio Sec of State website. What would happen?
1. When they tried to use a fox computer, the SoS website would time-out.
2. Fox would still need that data, and some staffer (maybe Rove himself) would quickly figure out the workaround, forwarding data from some non-firewalled computer, to the fox studios.
This is exactly what happened, Rove said so.
Quoted At 1:30 of the video linked below. "... secretary of state website... I have the director of the Ohio campaign for Romney ON THE OTHER END OF THE LINE refreshing the page every few seconds."
This is positive proof that Rove was firewalled in some manner. The SofS website was operating properly, but Rove could not access it from his location. There is no other explanation for why he was getting this particular data from the Ohio director.
Moving further, let's imagine that the people who created the firewall had been quite effectively playing games with the Romney campaign's ORCA project all day long. They are laughing as Rove stammers "I'm getting my data from Ohio's campaign director". What would the hackers do? They'd block Ohio's campaign director as well.
This is exactly what happened, Rove said so.
Quoted At 3:50 of the video linked below. "Apparently the website has been crashed, because they can no longer refresh it.". There are no reports of Ohio's SofS website going down.
This is proof positive that Anonymous did indeed actively firewall Rove.
