Wikileaks Whistleblower is Person of the Year

"Forget the Olympics, mummy porn, particle physics, elections galore and the bravery of a young Pakistani girl. The Guardian's 2012 person of the year vote has concluded and the winner, after some rather fishy voting patterns that belied earlier reader comments on the poll, is Bradley Manning, the US whistleblower on trial for leaking state secrets."*

'The Guardian' voters made happily surprising choices for who they thought would be person of the year, including people who fought against overwhelming oppression and a pioneering scientist. Their ultimate choice was Bradley Manning, the soldier who whistle-blew atrocities committed by U.S. soldiers. Cenk Uygur explains why he wholeheartedly supports the readers' decision.

Thank goodness for The Guardian and their intelligent readers.

Manning was tried and convicted by a jury of his peers before being tortured kept safe from himself.

These British still don't understand that we won the Revolution, and they have to respect our authoritah! Heck, they call their flag the Union Jack. See! They're pro-union!!! Totally unrealistic!!!

Third-Way Manny

he made the ultimate sacrifice for the country he believes in and served for. No one, will ever be able to take that away from him, now or ever.

I continue to pray for him. He has it very rough from what I'm reading.

He sacrificed for his country. I would like to think I'd do the same. I have often put my own job on the line against moronic actions at employers that were either stupid or racist in manner, and came out on top in all but one, but his putting his job on the line involves the brig if caught, and he was, so he's a huge hero!

... some recognition for a true hero from the "mainstream media".

This guy has been thrown in a dungeon for being a whistleblower and embarrassing those in power. His rights have been trampled and massacred by the US govt.

Where is "progressive" Obama on this?

What's worse, I am a veteran of military intelligence who is a heretic. The classification of a video of helicopters shooting down civilians in Iraq served no purpose other than public relations. That is not a legitimate reason to classify a document.

The enemy that the government didn't want to see that video was you and me. Goddammit, we are the government.

Bradley Manning is a patriot, more so than any tea party jingoist in Congress or the press persecuting him. He should get a medal for his actions, not jail time or a prison sentence.
