Thom Hartmann: Conversations - Bruce Bartlett "GOP is Full of Crazy Ignorant Tea Partiers" Part 1

Bruce Bartlett, Historian/Domestic Policy Adviser to President Ronald Reagan/Treasury official under President George H. W. Bush/writes for New York Times, Financial Times, Fiscal Times, and Tax Notes magazine joins Thom Hartmann. After suffering major blows in last month's election - it's clear that the Republican party has lost its way. But are Conservatives in Washington ready to face facts - and do what is necessary to once again become a relevant and mainsteam political party?

I know we're not perfect in the Democratic party. We're just not.

But it's interesting to watch a Republican who is so visibly upset with his current party and so vocal about it. He's not a liberal by any means. He served in the Reagan and Bush I administrations.

It's not a surprise I have to watch him on Thom Hartmann. FAUX news and all of the FOX talk shows won't be inviting him on any time soon I suspect. They are the purveyors of the "insane" ideas he talks about and rarely, if ever, provide a contradictory or contrasting view to them.

If the Republicans started to listen to people like Bartlett they might stop losing elections 51% to 47%. Obviously since Romney managed to get 47% despite his total lack of qualification and personal inability for introspection or empathy for the common person he still got almost half the votes. If the GOP ran someone who didn't get caught effectively saying almost half the US population is moochers and he'll never be able to represent them they might swing that 47% of votes to over 50% of votes. It's close enough that it's possible.
