(11,086 posts)Canada, Germany, Britain, France, etc. all have postal systems (6 days a week) and the internet, yet they aren't bleeding red ink. They charge higher rates for stamps, yet their societies have not collapsed. Here, Congress won't even discuss higher rates. They would rather strangle the postal service than allow it to cover its costs.
This is intentional action on the part of Congress.

(1,782 posts)Wouldn't it be nice if a progressive (or even just reasonable) rep in Congress introduced a bill to end postal destruction. Would it get through Republican-controlled Congress? I think it might, if it got enough publicity to expose their scheme and embarrass the hell out of them.
This scam needs to be known. Then it can be turned around.

(1,648 posts)This is a good example of the "poison pill" put into legislation to cause wreckage in the near future. First frig with workers schedules and lay off many, then close post offices especially small rural ones far from others, then stop Sat. delivery of mail...get it? Steady downgrades and morale busters for the workers, just to make a political RW statement about "shrinkin' da goverment", even though the PO does not tap into federal budget, it just has "congressional oversight", which is the crack into which this 2006 Bushian Pill was started. It is nasty and taking down all that use the PO, which are most of the citizens of this Nation. Is there an organization pushing against this steady draining of the PO's blood?

(943 posts)this legislation? Were congress in Session?
Parkmon has it wrong. Its NOT to save 2 Billion, Its to STEAL another 2 Billion. There was not
and is not any problems with the Postal Service that was created by the GOP senate.
Republicans passed what 30 bills to END Obama Care.
How many bills did the Democratic control congress in 2007 pass to End this poison pill legislation?
Dianne Fienstien HUSBAND's company is hired to sell off all the postal service properties.
Top Dems has an interest in destroying the post office as well and Republicans.
