Related: About this forumAtty. General - Monumental Coward?
"In short, the Justice Department argued that it was lawful for the government to kill an American citizen if "an informed, high-level official" decided that the target was a ranking figure in Al Qaeda who posed "an imminent threat of violent attack against the United States" and if his capture was not feasible. While the administration's basic legal conclusions had already been aired including in speeches by Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. and other officials the white paper provided a far more detailed legal justification.
Some human rights groups dismissed it in language reminiscent of their critiques of the Bush administration's legal opinions on torture, taking particular aim at its flexible definition of what might constitute an "imminent" threat and the lack of any outside check on its claimed authority."*
In response to outrage over the leaked white paper memo, Attorney General Eric Holder differentiated between an imminent and immediate threat in ordered killings based on secret evidence. How is Holder handling his duties, and why does Cenk Uygur consider him to be a monumental coward?

(45,984 posts)We're still being screwed by bankers with impunity, we're still living with an administration that thinks it can circumvent our rights based on secret evidence.
And that's still wrong.

Remember when the AG was a position of respect? A defender of civil rights? I guess I'm getting old.

(8,219 posts)something less than worshipful about Pres. Obama, spoke out, early on, against the Iraq war.
When he was "guilded" (put on notice by the NYT and told to get with the program), QUIT HIS JOB rather than compromise his integrity.
Next time there's some "drive by" attack on Mr. Hedges because he continues to raise the alarm about our march into fascism in this country, that inconvenient fact needs to be remembered.
Eric holder is a disgrace to this country. And what does that say about Obama, who continues to support him?

How do we manage out of ALL the people who could qualify for AG, to end up with crooks, liars, and cowards for AGs every damn time?

(594 posts)understand where we're going? When the drones are all in place and everyone is made impotent in self-protection, how exactly are you going to stop the government from appropriating your Social Security? Can there be a time-out for liberalism where we have to hop in the ring ourselves just to protect our families?

(18,479 posts)Holder is a fairly young guy. How is he going to make his Nut after he's done as AG? All the good jobs are for the Corporations and Banksters he should be prosecuting. What, he should be a cloistered Monk for the rest of his Life? He's just looking out for 'Number One.'
