PD didn't care if there might be hostages inside. Some media sources are failing to report that it was the cops who torched the place. Add it up.

(86,742 posts)pretty sloppy in their execution of the operation... geeze, I don't ever wonder why I'm so glad I evacuated from Calif long ago.
So there was a basement in the cabin and they didn't have the perimeter secured even after they torched the place...

(32,723 posts)At one point they talk about part of the cabin collapsing but that was lifted from their use of the armored dozer that they used.
I saw the thing going past the roadblock still on it's trailer on the news. It was painted military olive drab and had bullet proof windows.

(4,437 posts)Murder.
Setting a fire to kill a civilian, by the way, is a violation of the Geneva 1949 convention if it were military doing the burning.
I see that particular use of fire to be with the intention to kill the occupant of the building. I consider that murder in the first degree.
Yes, he was a bad guy. But murdering him in this fashion was not necessary and in my humble opinion, a flagrant violation of the use of force.

Maybe some of you would feel differently if he was shooting at you!

(4,869 posts)So I take it you would be ok with the same thing happening to the officers who shot at the elderly Asian women delivering papers? Lets be consistent here.

ForgoTheConsequence
(4,869 posts)You made the statement "if he was shooting at you" so would those elderly ladies have been in the right to return shots and set the cops on fire who were shooting at them? They were being shot at. We're still a nation of laws.

(54,041 posts)That pretty much wins me over every time. I won't cry over Dorner going down. Him not being taken alive was more or less a given (Cenk Uyger called it last week) but it shouldn't have gone down like that. When police resort to burning buildings rather than waiting out a holed up suspect, it cheapens the law; it cheapens our laws. They wanted him dead. It may not be murder, but it sure ain't right.

That's it in a nut shell! That was supposedly the attitude of the police that caused Dorner to eventually go nuts on them.
It is also the reason many if not most civilians don't trust the police.
How do you think this vicious circle can end?

(12,882 posts)Our county is the second poorest in the state - and that's reflected in the quality of the deputies here. I hope to hell I NEVER have to depend on them in a clutch situation. These guys make Keystone Cops look downright professional!
