Alamo Letter Returns After 177 Years!!

For those who are fans of all things Texas, like the Bowie Knife, Davy Crockett... or just those that enjoyed the Ken Burns 'Civil War' series on PBS so many years ago, told primarily through the actual letters and words of soldiers engaged in battle, the return of the Travis Victory or Death Letter to the Alamo might be of interest. It was written by Col. William B Travis in desperate attempt to get support to defend the Alamo mission from Santa Anna's building army.

The Travis Letter will be there just during the 13 or so days (Feb 23-March 7, 2013) when in history the siege of the Alamo took place. It is significant in that it has been 177 years since the very letter that left the Alamo in hopes of getting assistance has returned to the place where so many lost their lives. No reinforcements ever came. Both Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie, of the infamous Bowie Knife lost their lives there as well as a regiment of roughly 200 others.

Posting this a bit early for those that are history buffs and want to make plans to travel to San Antonio to see it on display there. Who knows, even Phil Collins of Genesis is likely to be there. He's a big Alamo history buff who has quite a collection of his own and has authored a book on its history.

San Antonio is a great place to visit and this time of year can be pretty beautiful, ahead of the heat of summer. (For those planning, the Alamo is downtown near the Riverwalk.)
