Which is not to say that adolescents shouldn't be counselled to avoid getting into situations that they're not physically or emotionally equipped to handle -- Pop Warner football, f'rinstance -- but there's little statistical doubt that a combination of "you're allowed to say 'no'" and "be prepared if you say 'yes'" is the sensible path to helping young people navigate this intensely emotional issue.
