Haunted By: A ghost wearing heavy boots.
Boo! The many ghosts that are said to haunt the Galvez are one of the hotels selling points. Guests book rooms in the hopes of seeing the Ghost Bride who hanged herself in one of the turrets on the roof; the little girl bouncing a ball in the lobby; and Sister Katherine, a nun who is said to have drowned in the 1900 hurricane and who may have been buried on the land where the hotel was later built. The ghost that haunts the restroom on the first floor near the music hall is one of the hotels creepier spirits, and he apparently likes to have the bathroom to himself. Once, when a guest popped into the restroom late at night after using the hot tubs, the lights suddenly went out and the woman could hear boot steps approaching her. Then the sound of loud breathing, and a mans voice that ordered, Get out!

(4,526 posts)I lived in a building built around the 1910's. The first few times the toilet flushed on its own, I just kind of went hmmm....and carried on. It wasn't until I was standing at the sink next to it when it flushed that I took it seriously. I didn't see the handle go down, but I darn sure saw it come back up.
I lived there for about 3 years and quite a few friends and family heard/saw the toilet flush itself over the years. The most memorable time was on Thanksgiving. About 15 people were standing around the table ready to eat and my father was saying grace. Right after the Amens, it flushed. Freaked one aunt out so bad she left right after lunch and never came back to that apt.
There was no other activity in the apt., so it didn't really bother me.
