When insurance does not cover robotic surgery with the daVinci robot

So I was recently told that I should consider surgery, and this would be the best way to go.
At the same, the company, I am working for, is going through a merger, and we have just had the second round of layoffs this week. As a result, of the merger, my health insurance will also change in Jan, and not sure if the new health insurance will cover this procedure.
I will be post-recovering at home by myself, and looking at 2 week downtime. If my dr schedule is open over Xmas/New year, I prob going to move the scheduling of the surgery up,because it is covered by my present health insurance. This will throw a huge spanner into xmas plans, but this is where the chips fall.

Have the surgery and postpone Christmas. Christmas is also a good time to recoup. democratisphere Nov 2017 #1

I would do it this year because of several factors, you won't have to start all over with your out of pockets, you will know what your insurance covers and the new 2018 policy will have to provide the follow up care, with new insurance you may not even be able to have the same medical team or hospital for that matter. I am facing a somewhat similar situation where I need to decide on surgery or not. I have to look at the fact that I have no idea how my insurance is going to change for possible rehab if needed, nursing care if needed, therapy, percentage of labs that I will be responsible for, cost of medication pre, during and post surgery, xrays mri's etc., and on and on. We can pretty much count on the fact that our insurance payments are going to go through the roof, but i also have to anticipate that they are going to cut and cover less wherever possible. I'd rather deal with the enemy i know than one that i have to try to guess about.

good luck to you - we are looking at the divinci robot for the hospital i work at - i've heard great things about it.

She was 4 months pregnant at the time, to boot. The alternative was slicing her open and guaranteeing she'd be on bed rest until our daughter was born.

Our insurance sent us a bill for $21,000! Experimental, they said. I fought those fuckers for 10 months, appealing every denial, getting letters from her OBGYN and surgical team, even the chief of medicine at the hospital. I was able to get my company's corporate HR head to assist as well when Blue Cross started "losing" faxed paperwork; I'd fax it to both them and her and let her tear them a new asshole when they claimed they never got my paperwork.

They finally caved and accepted my claim. I got an excited phone call at 6am from said head of HR (she was a wonderful woman). The kicker is, I should have had to pay the $5000 deductible, but by some miracle my corporate HR head said my bill due was zeroed out.
