A Red Letter Night. Curling is back on TV.

I was raised in South Arkansas and live there now. I had never heard of Curling growing up.

Every four years, Curling comes back on TV and I love it. The skill, the strategy, grown people sweeping ice. . . .

Watching the US Olympic trials. I do love it so.

There's a very big, and very old, curling club around here, and some years ago I and some other friends were invited there by a member to take a shot at the sport. It was strange, but a lot of fun. It's trickier than one might think.

I think we really didn't do much other than put cracks in the ice. I hope our performance didn't keep the grades after us from experiencing it.

My perspective on curling is that it's much like baseball in the sense that there is always a nascent strategy.

Otherwise, forgive me for my naiveté in assuming I know anything about curling. It just seems to look like fun.

I've watched enough - again every four years - that I have become a reasonably knowledgeable fan. Strange for a guy from south Arkansas, huh?

the biggest log cabin in the world, that had a curling rink and we could try it out. Kinda fun.

During the Olympics, I will record all the US games for viewing during more nearly normal hours. It's fascinating.

You can hear the teams discussing the shot and know exactly what they mean to do. An amazing sport.

Only been once, with my kids. You need a light touch, once you get past the falling on your butt phase, it's very easy to overshoot the target when you throw.

On a trip to Canada I met a woman who told me she had won trophies in curling.

I thought she was a beautician.

Back when he was a contract cameraman, he always dreamed of getting a gig at the Olympics. Finally, in 2002, he got to go to Utah. He wanted to cover hockey, or maybe the bobsled or luge. Anything fast. What did he get? Curling. At least he had a press pass for the rest of the games.
