"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me".

I hate that - it just gives license to people to keep on being Lucy with the football. I don't care if Eleanor Roosevelt did say it, it's always bothered me!

"People in glass houses should never throw stones" had me stumped for the longest time. Not sure at what age I finally got it, but it was when I heard my mother repeat it about someone she felt was a hypocrite. I think I was a teenager.

which people seem to take to mean, hey, if she cheats on me, then it's perfectly fine for me to cheat on her.

uh, no.

no it isn't.

some couples reach an "understanding", but then it isn't actually "cheating".
if it's "cheating", then it's not ok.
period.

of course, my father always insisted it's properly "what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander", meaning, either way, your goose is cooked!

Always falsely attributed to Winston Churchill, who never said such a thing.

Very ageist, in my opinion. The older I get, the more liberal I get.

And I have a brain.

Just about the stupidest thing ever said. Lightning is more likely to strike the same place than not. Lightning is electricity, which always follows the path of least resistance. And air is a very poor conductor of electricity.

How would a horse know what that is?

(That reminds me of a scene from "Goodfellas" where top mobsters are meeting at a farmhouse in upstate New York; and one of the limo drivers is telling a cow to "get the hell away from the car"..but the cow doesn't move, so he pulls out a gun and aims it at the cow, and then the cow moves)

I guess you can pull yourself down by your bootstraps, maybe?

But not up.

It's an obnoxious saying as it is, but the fact that it is describing something that cannot actually happen makes it all the worse.

Violence never solves anything. Last time I checked,World War II (not to mention many other wars) was pretty violent.

Not advocating violence, but it is what it is.
