The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI want a rom com to watch right now!
Yes, I watch rom coms. And I need them now, more then ever. I can't watch the news.
I like, and have watched over the last few horrible days/weeks/months:
Love Actually
Pretty Woman
Briget trio
You've got Mail (not a fan of Sleepless in Seattle)
Man Up
You get the drift. I need more......yes, not good cinema but works for me when I need to escape.
Have I missed something good?
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,869 posts)We all have our own escapes. I might just read dark Scandinavian murder mysteries and drink.

(15,412 posts)How about Hoilday with Cameron Diaz and Jude Law? Or... on Netflix: Butter. Not a rom-com, but funny and different.

(6,121 posts)All that stuff on Acorn TV, where all you have to worry about is who-done-it. I dont have to think very hard and can just zone out. All the old favorites: Morse, Lewis, Endeavour, Midsomer, Death in Paradise, Miss Fisher, Dr Blake, etc.
I agree about Love Actually. Will watch it again in a couple of weeks. Laughing just think about the pageant costumes.

(82,849 posts)I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the story and the quick-as-a-whip wisecracking byplay of Jean Harlow and William Powell. Myrna Loy and Spencer Tracy round out the leads.
Little gems are supplied by Walter Connolly as the paterfamlias and E.E. Clive in a small but important scene.

(28,945 posts)Yes I know, Sarandon isn't a fave around DU these days, but she brings it in this film and the rest of the cast keeps up with her.
It's a rom-com for grown ups.

(15,412 posts)Some I've seen "in there day" but I can watch a good rom com over and over and I'd forgotten some of these. Arsenic and Old Lace is a rom com? I remember it as a great black comedy. I'll have to see it again.

(27,866 posts)Probably the best romantic comedy I've ever seen.
Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt won the Academy Award for Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively, making "As Good As It Gets" the most recent film to win both of the lead acting awards.
Nicholson & Hunt also won Golden Globe awards for their acting in this great comedy,
and it won the Golden Globe Award for "Best Film - Musical or Comedy"
