There's a Bassett Hound Puppy Coming to my house in 8 weeks!!!

We just found out that our friend's fullblooded bassett just had a litter of 8 and they are holding one for us.

We dont know if it's a boy or a girl that we are getting, but the search for names has begun.

Any bassett hound owners here?

I'm excited, we just found out five minutes ago

Names: if it's a boy, I'm leaning towards Fred (Smokey and the Bandit) or Flash (Dukes O' Hazzard)

If you haven't had a puppy before it's really important to learn how to prepare for the little visitor. Things to put away or out of reach, doors and cabinets to lock, tying up curtain pulls etc.

There are a lot of puppy-proof sites that you can check out. This is a good one:

Believe it or not, I vaguely remember this TV series from when I was a kid, and Cleo was the highlight. Great name for a basset hound!

please remember that they tend to carry more weight than they should so a good exercise regimen is a must. Additionally, keeping their ears cleaned works well to cut down on ear infections.

Mine was incredibly loyal to the point where if my mom didn't know where I was, she could send the dog out to find me.

last August. We've had three in our lifetime and they are a very special dog.

They are loving but if they don't want to do something they can shake that bootie and you know just what they're thinking.

Our second basset, Dudley, just about raised our granddaughter, he guarded her, watched out for her and she learned to stand up by holding on to his ears.

We have our third Old English Sheepdog now and since we're getting older he will more than likely be our last.

My husband misses Tripper very much, he was daddy's boy.

I found one thing with them, if you give them fish oil or some other type of oil in their food it does help with shedding and they do shed.
