Django Unchained. Bowlderized. It sucks.

Bowlderized : altered to remove or modify elements considered objectionable or potentially offensive

Thomas Bowdler, LRCP, FRS (/ˈbaʊdlər/; 11 July 1754 – 24 February 1825) was an English physician best known for publishing The Family Shakspeare, an expurgated edition of William Shakespeare's work. The work, edited by his sister Henrietta Maria Bowdler, was intended to provide a version of Shakespeare that was more 'appropriate' for 19th century (Victorian) women and children than the original.

The eponymous verb bowdlerise (or bowdlerize)[1] has associated his name with the censorship of elements deemed inappropriate for children, not only of literature but also of motion pictures[2] and television programs.

BET buzzed out 'nigger' (used MANY times and historically accurate given the subject matter and times) and 'motherfucker', I guess just because?

That just destroys the tone and concept of a movie.
Spoiler: Django wins.

3. As an aside, a fantasy like Django is in ways more accurate than other antebellum pics

Sure a black man wouldn't have gotten away with what he did and the film is like Inglorious Basterds in that it's a violent revenge flick, but the scenes of the dogs going after slaves, and the nuances of the interracial relationships is truer than most other films like Gone With the Wind that continue the Lost Cause narrative.

And yeah, taking out the n word is as bad doing it in pieces of literature.

5. Curious why filmmakers don't contractually insist their films play unedited.

I’m paying for cable for crying out loud, why let people hack it up? If I’m offended I can change the friggin channel.

like "This film has language and violent content that is not appropriate for younger and more sensitive viewers".
