(12,157 posts)Cafe Du Monde is, in my opinion, a bit darker roast. I find French Market to be smoother and has more chocolate tones than C D M. It's the same with a pair of Irish Stouts. I like Guinness OK but really like Murphy's stout better. That's only in Ireland. I have never had a really good pint of either in the U.S. The stuff in cans is better draft in bars and pubs. They just don't have the patience or the expertise to pull a good pint.

(19,459 posts)Benjamin-Moore, Sherwin-Williams, and (before they sold to ICI) Fuller-OBrien were our go to coatings.
Each of those brands had volume related discounts, and over the years we did enough business with them that we paid about half retail price.

(19,459 posts)Super Paint was our regular coating, but I also liked using the Cashmere line.
Fuller-O'Brien used to make an acrylic product called "AA Enamel" that brushed out like a sprayed finish; however, the changes to the VOC laws in California made it less friendly under the brush, as with so many other oil and water-based coatings.
I've been retired for 10 years, so I'm really not up to date on the current coatings lines. I understand the SW Emerald line is excellent, but $90 per gallon, retail...?

The cheap knock-offs taste like distilled vinegar, high fructose corn syrup with "artificial and natural" molasses flavoring, cheap ketchup, maybe a little onion, and used coffee grounds. There's none of that magical peppery fermented fish flavor at all. The can't even manage the soy sauce flavor when soy sauce is a listed ingredient.

Recipe:
1 cup water
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 cup salt
1 cup flour
1 tablespoon cream of tartar
Food coloring
Mix all the ingredients in a non-stick pan and heat over medium heat, stirring regularly, until it becomes Playdough, which will take about three minutes.
I got this recipe from the pre-school my son attended, and there are various ones on the internet. I don't believe the no-cook ones are as good, but I never tried them. Once you take it out of the pan it cools down in less than five minutes.
When my son was young and friends would come over to play, I'd often ask them their favorite color and then make a batch or two of the playdough for them to play with. One great thing is that you can make colors the commercial stuff doesn't come in.
It doesn't have that smell, of course, which I recall from my own childhood.

Toilet paper Scott brand. Get the original one, not the supersoft or any other version. The original simply lasts vastly longer than anything else. More sheets per roll, maybe more tightly rolled, not sure. It's sort of like the super whipped margarine (which is gross and truly bad for you) or cream cheese. In both cases there's more air incorporated so you pay as much for less product.

(426 posts)....Smooth Peanut Butter. Bubbies is expensive, as much as $9 for a 32-ounce jar, in high-end health food stores. But, very worth it. It must be refrigerated, so the kraut stays crisp and tangy. It also contains all the benefits of fermented foods, that you don't get with the brands that can sit on the grocer's shelves for months at a time.
As for peanut butter, Laura Scudder's is my go-to favorite. "Just peanuts and salt, that's all". We finally used up all the Kirkland PB in the house. It's OK, but not quite there. I promptly ordered a six-pack of LS from Amazon last month. Now on our third jar. And I know it probably doesn't make any difference, but I think glass jars make the PB taste better.
Other than those, I usually either make it myself, especially yogurt, or buy the house brands. I made country sausage last week. Farmer John, eat your heart out!
