I had a bug the past few days that put me down for the count.

After I got to work Saturday afternoon, I started to feel like I was coming down with something. I put in a twelve hour shift and felt progressively worse throughout the night. By the time I got home Sunday morning, it was all I could do to get undressed and fall into bed. And I stayed there until this morning for the most part.

I don't know if it was the flu or food poisoning. I felt really run down like I would with the flu, but I had really bad pain in my bowels and other symptoms you might associate with that. My digestive system was just all torn to hell. My wife took care of me over the past few days, but at one point I felt like I might have had to go to the hospital.

The sharp pains in both my upper and lower digestive systems were nearly unbearable. I can remember rinsing out my mouth, after a particularly projectile bout of stomach emptying. I swallowed a small amount of water, and that triggered another round of vomiting. But once the offending substance (and everything else) had cleared my system enough for it to re-set, my recovery was relatively quick. It is my understanding that flu knocks you out for a long period of time.

Someone I know has been suffering through a 'stomach flu', whatever that is. I think people tend to tag a lot of winter time illnesses as flu.

Anyway, I hope you start feeling better, soon!

I noticed I started feeling that way not long after I had some take-out stromboli. I don't know if it was the food itself or some kind of virus that got there through other means.

on top of a respiratory infection. She was passing out. I brought her around and got her into bed and applied a cold compress to her face. In a couple of hours she started feeling better but extremely weak.
She recovered in time to make the most spectacular Xmas feast I ever had.

Spent Christmas Eve feeling progressively queasier, then woke up at 1 AM Christmas Day feeling distinctly nauseous. Got no sleep until I realized I had some travel sickness pills, tried one of them and managed to sleep a couple of hours. Then as my wife was starting the Christmas feast took one sip of coffee and blammo, off to worship the porcelain god. But after that I started to feel better until I was able to enjoy a modest portion of the feast before bedtime. And I pretty much feel fine this morning.

My husband and I had the same thing happen on Christmas. We were supposed to drive to Austin, Texas (From Boulder, CO) but both of us were sick as hell on Christmas Day and for a day or two afterwards. I called my family to tell them we would be a few days late. By the time we were well enough to drive a big ole snow storm hit. Never made it to Texas.

Sorry you were sick, Tobin S. Sucks. But glad you're better now.

either bacteria or viruses like Norovirus. It usually goes away in a couple of days, but oh boy, it's a miserable couple of days. Last time I had it I ended up mostly sleeping on the bathroom floor because, well, you know...

Glad you're feeling better.

He had gotten (?) a flu shot but apparently what struck him was not covered by the combo used that year.
Like most of us would do, he tried to treat it with over the counter cold/flu medications.

On the third day his temperature was 103° and his significant other took him to the emergency room,
where he went into a coma, and ended up on life support.

A day or so later they took him off life support and he passed.

He and his partner had been together 20 years, and the flu ended it in a few days.

So, the flu is nothing to take lightly.

is definitely nothing to fool around with. But what the OP is talking about isn't influenza. Stomach "flu" isn't flu at all; it's gastroenteritis, and in most cases people recover after a couple of unpleasant days.

48 hours more of weak and queasy but societally/work functional.

Good luck. I feel your pain. Toast, chicken noodle soup, saltines, gatorade/ginger ale easing into oatmeal, grilled cheese, buttered noodles, wheat thins, sparkling h20, and then finally that first tentative bite into "real" food...

Take your time.

has absolutely nothing to do with influenza.

With influenza you are usually sick for a week, maybe longer. Nausea and vomiting are uncommon in adults with flu, but will occur with "stomach flu", again totally unrelated to influenza.

Sorry you were sick, and hope you are vastly better very soon.

A little pain in the guts still sometimes, but other than that I no longer have any symptoms. Onset was Saturday at about 4PM and I felt good enough to be able to work yesterday at about 6AM. So about 62 hours or so to run its course in me.
