Three things I know for sure:

1. You're not as weird as you think you are.
2. Everybody is weirder than they seem.
3. Everyone is somebody's weirdo.

#3 is quite important. If there's someone in your life who makes you feel less-than or inadequate or unimportant, be comforted by the knowledge that someone somewhere thinks he or she is a goddamn weirdo.

But I'm cool with that.

This reminds me of a time when my wife asked me if her family seemed weird to me because mine did to her. I told her that there is no such thing as normal. Everybody is weird.

I have a similar thing I have used to impart that kind of wisdom on the kiddos. It's the bad song on the radio thing. I tell them, "You know what? That's someone's favorite song." Whether they think it's dumb or not, and whether they think the person who loves that song is dumb or not, it still gets them immediately into someone else's shoes, if only for a moment.

Our station owner used to say, "Every single song we play is somebody somewhere's favorite song in the whole world."
