a lot of modern political comedy is very carlinesque.

samantha bee definitely, john oliver sometimes, etc.

in a way it's like saying i wish the beatles could make more music.
sure, that'd be cool, but every band since is quite influenced by them.

Mark Russell - retired in 2010, and again in 2016
Tom Lehrer - retired in disgust when Henry Kissinger got the Nobel Peace Prize (okay, not really, but it was rumored)

And somebody gets a visit from the Secret Service in 3...2...

Lots of good names above. A resurrected Lincoln could salvage the Republican Party. Eisenhower would at least make it examine itself. Say what you will about an opposition party, healthy democracies need them and they need them healthy. Jefferson, Adams, Madison and a few of their companions could accomplish unparalleled things with a call for a Constitutional Convention to solve problems beyond the reach of our contemporaries.

the World's Foremost Authority.

Actually, he did live until February 6, 2017. Corey was a lifelong socialist and progressive, and -- although he was 102 at the time of his death -- I imagine seeing "The" Donald Drumpf named president didn't do much for his well being.

Come to think of it, in a way I'm kind of glad a lot of my heroes and heroines didn't live long enough to see this dark day dawn, although I could use their company and caustic wit about now.
