pair for paper stuff
pair for unwrapping/getting out everything that is wrapped in plastic/foil/etc.
sewing pair, that is mostly used for trimming the dog's hair since i quit sewing.
minimum 4 pairs at any one time. Life is too short to screw around with insane packaging.

After that, you just try again and again.

Very handy and you dont know how many uses they serve until you have them around.

Ive resorted to scissors and cut around the pill.
Kinda reminds me of the days of trying to open a new music CD. Those packages were impossible to open without busting out the pliers.

Then they made the backing thicker, stiffer and tougher.
Not it takes a lot of swearing to accomplish it, plus a sharp something.

(15,539 posts)It's no longer the manufacturer thinking about the consumer and what's good for them. It's like they deliberately make it impossible to get anything out of a package easily. I'm an older woman with very small hands and have lost some strength, but I have to believe that some of these products out there are difficult for anyone to get into.
I blame it on the old Tylenol scare of the '70's (I think that's when the first one happened) when manufacturers decided to make it impossible to get into anything. Some things don't even require the amount of security to get into, yet they have three layers of plastic crap you have to get off before you can even get into the product.
I'd wager a bet that more people have injured themselves trying to get into the package then would have been injured by outside tampering.
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,857 posts)That was what started all the packaging like this.
I know with prescription meds you can request non childproof container, but things like the blister pak for over the counter medications are all you can get any more.

(14,491 posts)Cut a slot in each plastic bubble right against the backing sheet using an Xacto knife. Then, just pry the bubble open to get the capsule. To hell with that not-so-brilliant peel-back the paper idea.
You could also cut slots in the backing sheet with the Xacto, but you would risk poking the capsules. Good idea too, to wear garden gloves when forcing something with any sharp tool.
