Plus Superbowl squares (could win money!) and commercials and my dad's crab dip recipe make it a fun day regardless. Oh, and beer.

My fact minded older son once read an analysis of your typical NFL broadcast, which figured out that there are about 12 minutes of actual on-the-field action in a 2-3 hour airing.
When I was a kid, I knew that when my dad was done watching football, it would be my turn for some tube time. I'd go into the family room to ask how much time was left, and he'd say, "5 minutes." I'd go back 15 minutes later to ask again, and it would be, "3 minutes."

(16,646 posts)Not sure how to measure this. But the spouse makes really good appetizers for the game. And as long as it is competitive, it can be a fun game to watch since it is usually a couple of the best teams. Besides, Americans do very little all together, at the same time. If nothing else, we can all share the experience and complain about the commercials the next day.

(15,384 posts)Fourteen years ago, I was talking with a friend over a messenger program. Her husband was watching it while she was on the computer. I suddenly became very interested in the halftime show as she exclaimed what had just happened with Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson, and she proposed a contest to see who could find an image of it first on the internet.
I won - less than 10 minutes.

15 minutes of "action stuffed into 4 hours plus all the pre-games, post games, half-time shows and constant blathering about the "game" from now til next September.
It's a game, people.

(50,559 posts)I enjoy watching football and baseball, so I'm looking forward to the Super Bowl - even though the Seahawks aren't in it. (Fortunately for us, we finally canned the guy who came up with the stupidest play in the history of professional sports...
...so we should be okay next season.) I'd prefer a different band at halftime - Justin Timberlake doesn't do anything for me - but the game should be okay and the commercials are always good.
What I'm REALLY looking forward to, though, is the Daytona 500. I don't like basketball, tennis or golf, not a huge Olympics fan and absolutely will not watch soccer for any reason whatsoever. This year I'm going to a race, which should be fun. I have a Row 1 ticket for the New Hampshire 301.

(13,592 posts)win it, that would be kind of a cool story. Keenam being Super Bowl MVP would have been the huge Cinderella story, Foles almost as good. It'll probably be Brady though.
I've wanted the game moved to Saturday for years now. It's practically a national holiday and one of the biggest party days of the year. It'd be a lot better for people having parties and drinking if it wasn't on a work night for most of us. It's gotta be rough in the eastern time zone starting so late.

(43,182 posts)They've never won the Super Bowl so it naturally would be nice to see them win it.
Their fans are notoriously--um--difficult, but perhaps finally winning will mellow them. (I doubt it, though....see Red Sox fans post 2004).
Also I love how Nick Foles was given up for dead as a starting quarterback and yet somehow found his way back into the big game.
Don't give a single shit or fuck for Tawm Brady or the Patriots. Hope they get blown out. So sick of them.
I would have loved to have seen the Jaguars in the Super Bowl, as they've never been there before. And they actually happen to be my second favorite team.
Vikings would have been great, too, just to see a team play a Super Bowl in its home stadium.
But I would have taken Jags-Eagles.
Just please, no more Patriots.

But I do not care who wins really don't care about philly except for the after show the fans would put on if they win
I hope Timberlake gets to redeem him self at half time no boobs flash or anything and he is a good performer
A Hamilton performance from Odom jr who is from philly
Star spangled banner by Pink? Who is from philly too. I don't see that but she has a nice voice
Ill probably get bored at some point after too many nachos and check back at the end or maybe not . See how the game goes

(5,790 posts)1) I'm just dead sick of the Patriots. Getting to the game whose name we are not supposed to mention is an accomplishment to be sure, but I'd like to see another team.
2) If the kids I grew up with were being shot and harassed by the police, and if the powers that be in Washington made it pretty clear they didn't care about people like me, and people like me made up over half the league, then you're damn right I'd use my position to protest. I was pretty disgusted by both the fan reaction and the attitude of many of the owners - Jones in particular.
3) The NFL is burying its head in the sand on CTE.
4) The NBA is simply a better, more compelling product right now.
5) And despite the fact that the Yankees look to be the New England Patriots of MLB, Baseball has also been a more compelling product I'd say over the past two years.
6) The whole "S****r Bowl" is copyrighted and you cant say it or use it in an ad without paying the league is bullcrap.
7) Goodell is incredibly overpaid.
8) College football also has its issues, but is generally more fun to watch.
So no - I won't watch. My ladies will likely check out the Puppy & /or Kitten Bowls.
