(27,820 posts)The Rolling Stones are the greatest rock & roll band still performing, imo.

(27,820 posts)(I only asked because it has zero votes, and I'm considering taking it down to make room for

(5,940 posts)Good lord, what a powerful song.
And I've long thought Merry Clayton's backup singing on this song was the single best vocal performance in rock 'n' roll. Ever.

(322 posts)Were I to make a list of my 25 favorite rock-n-roll songs, 'Rip This Joint' would be number one. It would also be the only song on the list recorded after 1965 and the only one recorded by a non-USA act.
The song is a rock-n-roll beast and literally cannot be topped IMO.

(18,837 posts)...it HAS TO BE the one from "Stripped."
In their infinite wisdom, the Stones left it off of the original "Stripped" CD, but it was in the film. It showed up on the Japanese "Wild Horses" single, but later made it to the "Totally Stripped" CD.
Lisa Fischer's solo begins at 2:58, and she hits that impossible high note at 3:23. It's a shame the actual video seems to be gone from YouTube, because when she hits it, they go to a close-up of Keef and he gets this big, beaming smile that is unforgettable. Martin Scorsese used the Lisa Fisher version in "Casino," specifically her solo section.

(27,820 posts)I like Marianne Faithfull's version too.
Unlike most songs Mick & Keith wrote together, As tears Go By was written by Mick, Keith, and Rolling Stones manager Andrew Long Oldham.

(27,820 posts)I could easily have posted 20 or 25 great Rolling Stones songs in a poll, but (alas), you only get 10 slots to fill.
Faraway Eyes might be the most underrated Stones song...(God I love that song)

(3,922 posts)On Underground Garage: Keith and Mick were pretty excited about it and played it for John Lennon and Paul McCartney in 1968. They all loved it.
Then the Beatles released a 7+ minute single called Hey Jude and basically buried SFM on the charts that year.
What a year for great music!
