Who do you think will win the very competitive Best Supporting Actress category this year?

Many categories are hard to call this year. This may be the hardest.

Yes - she is.

I haven't seen any of these. My daughter, who is my source on all current pop culture, thinks it's between Janney and Metcalf.

Here is why this year may be really tough to call, however.

Blige is supposed to be really good in Mudbound; she's a quasi-newcomer in terms of film; and this is a category that tends to favor newcomers more than others.

Spencer is supposed to be really good in The Shape of Water, this would be her third nomination; however, since she won for The Help, there is also logic that says she won't win for this.

I just don't know enough about Phantom Thread to know about Lesley Manville's chances.

I think Allison Janney should and probably will win. I suspect it will be either her or Laurie Metcalf. Really great performances from all these actresses.
