Budget vs. Penske -- who will prevail in: The case of the botched reservation

We have moved.

A LOT!

We have moved from Jackson, Ms to Houston Tx - and back - from Houston to Washington DC (actually Md) and then to Northern Va and when Gingrich and the Republiguns took over Congress we moved back to Miss and a few years later back to Northern Va to Austin to Tumwater Wa and on and on. In case you are wondering, we are not and have never been in the witness protection program.

Mostly for jobs, mostly in govt. or non profits... and teaching college. Which bring me to the next inescapable fact:

We have always had to move ourselves by renting a truck, trailer, etc. Loading the damn thing ourselves and taking off.

Every time we said we were NEVER going to do that again - well, except when we were young and cocky ... and hadn't fully realized that a good back is not a thing to take lightly ..... But as you can see, we always end up moving ourselves AGAIN !

We are no longer young ... or cocky ...ok, we are sort of cocky ... but we finally learned too late that a back is thing terrible to waste.

So now we have both had neck surgery, ( Me three times) and I have had 8 eye surgeries due to cataracts and detached retinas and in August I had a fusion of three vertebrae in my lower back. Melodie will have to have knee surgery as soon as we can afford it,

So now we are both disabled and our troubles have increased and our income has not. We have decided to move nearer to our daughter in Arkansas where we found a nice little place for almost half of what we are paying for rent here. The only problem is we have to get there.

T o make a long story less long, we haver rented a truck. My son in law is going to drive the truck and we have college students to come help us load. We have been spending th last week and a half visiting our various medical professionals one last time, plus I came down with bronchitis over the weekend.

But at least we had the truck reservation nailed down since last week. Our 26 ft truck is going to be ready for us tomorrow about 30 miles from here. Yesterday Melodie went by the location where we are supposed to pick it up just to make sure everything was set up. They were really nice and she arranged to get some extra moving pads.

So today about 3:30 when we are leaving our final appointment wit our pain management Doc, we get a telephone call from Budget.

"You do know that they only have 16 ft trucks at that location,"

No, nobody told us anything. So we get just a little hysterical. They have a 24 ft truck available, but we will have to go to Dallas (about 6o extra miles each way ... and NOBODY in their right mind wants to drive in Dallas traffic !!!

As soon as we got home we called them, to find out what the heck was going on and what the heck we could do.

My son in law is on his way down from Arkansas to pick up the truck tomorrow morning. A 26 ft truck. But it seems there is no 26 ft, truck anywhere in North Texas. The lady on the phone was really nice, but she couldn't help us. She sounded a little bit like Melania T., and it was her first day on her new job.

She said all we could do is call tomorrow morning and make a complaint and we would basically be given a number to wait for a 26 ft truck.

Well they had Trumped this thing up bigly !!!

So we Melodie gets on the computer and phone and in just a little while we have a reservation for a 26 ft PENSKE truck tommorrow morning in Granbury for less than the Budget truck was going to cost.

The one thing I learned was to never trust Budget again!

I also learned that Trump had tried to get the White House counsel to fire Mueller but he wouldn't do it.

So we'll see what happens .....

Also the Illuminati, as foretold by Nostradamus is running a secret society in the FBI, overseen by a gang of aliens (undocumented or extra- terrestrial, your choice) and run sex slaves under a Pizza place in ....

Someone who works there might be better able to explain it but I recall friends and family members who reserved a truck only to be told once they got there that this size was not available. They would give the truck to the person who showed up first. Or they were expecting a truck of the particular size to be returned but it had not come back yet.

Now, this is a far cry from letting you reserve a truck knowing they won't ever have that size!

But what's the point of making a reservation if you have to be the first to show up in order to claim it?

Either way, moving is no fun.

The trucks are better, easier to load. Plus they have lots of places you can drop them off. I tried Budget once. Never again, it was a total nightmare. I have never used Penske.

We are about to move again, locally. We bought a house, so hopefully this is the last time. And we have lots of time to move, so we can do it in stages and just rent a truck for the big stuff.

I told them the dimensions and they assured me they would have the trailer at the location the day I needed it. I arrived only to be told Uhaul has NO closed trailers tall enough for my needs. All they had was a open trailer with low sides. They would not even throw in the wrap stuff to protect the piano from the weather.

If they had been honest, I could have hauled my stock trailer down. Even though it has slat sides, it has a roof and would have protected the piano better.

I don't understand why companies LIE to their customers. This does not make them appear trustworthy, just proves how much they are willing to cheat to attempt to get business.

Their 26 footers have normal suspensions like a car, leaf springs and shocks, the large budget and penskis are diesel and air suspensions, which have very little give. They are designed to back up to loading docks so the deck hight is very high. The only reason to rent them is if you absolutely need a lift gate.

Uhaul will also match rates, and has literally ten of thousands more pick up and drop off locations.
