Not a big fan of the Olympics. Am I the only one?

Maybe I'm just old and set in my ways, but I have shows that I like to watch and they're probably not going to be on so we can all watch speed skating, downhill racing and ice dancing.

I may watch some hockey, but other than that, I couldn't care less.

1. I tend to like winter Olympics more so than summer, with exception of a few summer events...

Maybe because I have engaged in more winter sports (downhill, cross country skiing, ice skating, etc) in the past... so watching the really good perform is at least relateable.

What I don't like is how they are covered. In the past the human interest stories were not ONLY Americans, but stories from across the breadth of countries involved. It has become FAR too nationalistic now..

I saw it last night, and thought it was terrific.

At the end of the spot, they flash a list of countries where American Olympians come from and the list included several Middle-eastern countries including some from Trump's travel ban.

I thought it was a perfect "in your face" moment.

2. Won't watch a minute of it

I absolutely can't stand 20 minutes of human interest and five minutes of competition. Also not terribly excited by the sports. I grew up in So Cal and Mississippi, and even though I now live in Iowa, I view snow as the enemy.

NBC has the contract (excludes competition, btw) and does not consider the Olympic Games to be about the games, a.k.a. competition.

Not worth hours of puffery to see hightlights of competitive sports.

5. I'm not a fan of how NBC shows the Olympics on tv

It's a lot of puff pieces, mostly on U.S. athletes and even when they show the actual sports, it's also mostly focused on U.S. athletes and some other potential winners from other countries.

I'd rather just see the competition and not focus so much on U.S. athletes.

Neflix is coming in very handy in the next few weeks. Tried to watch the opening ceremonies yesterday and wondered why all the athletes were walking into an empty stadium. Turned off when I got tired of all the human interest stories ad nauseum.

The nbcsports Internet feed is great. No bullshit, just the events live.

but I think the coverage stinks (smarmy puff pieces, laser-focus on Americans, medal-count BS) and the whole economic side is a scam and a ripoff for average citizens.

Bottom line: deep dislike.

It was a big deal when it was US vs. the Russians but not these days when we are the Russians.

I lost interest years ago, mainly because of the constant yammering of the reporters.

I do enjoy the curling though. If it's on I may watch it - otherwise I don't really care.

17. I've hated Olympic coverage ever since NBC got the franchise

They don't show the best of all the competitions, only a few of the performances by the American competitors. NBC has never put up accurate schedules of their coverage, even when they were selling pay per view for specific sports.

As a result, NBC's Olympic coverage is simply not worth watching.

I've been watching streaming TV of all those series I missed over the years, plus old classics I only got to see sometimes.
