Celebrate the age of reason and free inquiry inspired by the man who gave us the theory of evolution through natural selection, and with it, the freedom from the chains of superstition through knowledge. We are a better species for his work. (But we've been trying not to act like it!)

(694 posts)I think many people love Darwin, but they don't know why.

(5,101 posts)In fact, not really. Charles Darwin was compassionate and refused to share his cousin's view (Francis Galton), the father of eugenism. He strongly believed that human relationships were above science.
But his son, Leonard Darwin, shared and promoted Galton's theory.
Galton's theory is inspired from his cousin's work.

That day I also learned I loved Carl Jung, and discovered I no longer cared for Freud or Constantine
Freud was a fraud.
And a despicable human being.
He probably had an affair with his sister in law. He went on vacation with her and kept sending postcards and pics to hi then fiancee, telling her about the great time their were having and how much they were in good shape and looking good together....
Even in our permissive era, such behavior is not accepted. What to say about Vienna around 1900 ?
His personal life is not what I hold issues with (though i also find it deplorable) it was what his professional life did to the wiring of mankind that I personally find distasteful.
Gandhi beat his wife, and Nixon was a devout and doting husband and father.
There footprints on the Tera have nothing to do with there off camera BS.
And understanding that is why I prefer Jung to Freud.

(5,101 posts)I should have been more explicit.
I can't. In French ok , but in English, my vocabulary is really too limited.
"There footprints on the Tera have nothing to do with there off camera BS."
I'll partly disagree. It is right for many personalities but not in Freud case, due to the nature of his activities.

(1,756 posts)It was not my intention to start an argument, or to be hostile. I have reread my post, and though I stand by it's content, I certainly could have worded better.
Ultimately I do agree with you: Freud=fraud.

(5,101 posts)I did not feel it hostile. It is the way I think.
Freud is Fraud, is lapidary but a great summary.

Says nothing about superstitions. But as a matter of fact superstition is a pretty modern adaptation that had a cohesive effect on populations. There is good and bad in everything. I'm a science fan too. And that is why i don't like to see some religious put down. Science and religion have their places no? I'm not very spiritual at all but know some who are. My grandmother's were and they were just the best eggs.
