I'm resting only slightly uncomfortably. Surprisingly, the most pain is from the air they shot into me to get a better view. There is a little gravity pain on the lower incision right above the navel. Apparently I had the best surgeon at the hospital. The nurses were gushing over him. The entire nursing staff at Mercy here in OKC were angels. I went to my appointment with the surgeon, who saw I hadn't eaten at all due to nausea, and he asked how I felt about getting surgery that afternoon. I was like, heck yeah. Let's get this over with! (Alternative was 3 weeks and if he had said that I probably would have had a breakdown) So, surgery got going about an hour later than it was scheduled. When I woke up, it look a little while to get situated and breathing normally. My blood pressure had spiked and it took a bit for me to relax. I hyperventilated a little bit, which didn't help.
They wheeled me to phase two (sitting up in their version of a recliner), asking me what I wanted to drink. They wanted me to drink soda after having an organ removed! I was like, do you have tea and cranberry juice? They mixed me some in those big mugs you get when you stay in the hospital which are awesome, I have to say. I drank, they gave me pill form pain meds and an anti-nausea pill, and they told me I had to urinate before I could leave. I was like, yeah, I did as soon as she helped me off the gurney, I ran to the bathroom. That made them so happy. Surg nurses are hilarious. Reminded me of when I got my appendix out when I was 12 and I farted for the first time. They were so excited for that too. They just had me stay for a half hour and then I got ready at my leisure. I was the last one for the day. They were just so sweet and helpful. The older nurse who discharged me was just so funny and hugged me as I was going out. She just thought I was silly. My husband, his dad and stepmom came and kept me company while I was in phase 2. I love when the people you love the most DON'T let you down.
Sorry for the rambling. Percaset tends to make me chatty and relaxed. I hope this post makes sense, because I wouldn't know if it didn't.

(24,931 posts)How many little scars do you have?
I think I had four incisions.
YellowRubberDuckie
(19,736 posts)And the lowest one hurts the worst. It's just above my navel and gravity is being a bitch. Although I've had the most pain from the air. The heating pad seems to be helping though.

(19,736 posts)We teasingly call him the Skiptator (his name is Skip). He's been researching and looking for fat free alternatives to my favorite foods. He's awesome. I'll keep him. I had a bagel for breakfast that he went to get me, shredded wheat for lunch, and for dinner, we'll figure something out.
Of course people kept walking by me with Chick Fil A yesterday in the waiting room at the hospital when I was waiting to check in. While I really hate that company because of it's fundy outlook, their spicy chicken is heaven. But they do have a really great fruit salad with no melon that I have been getting for breakfast. I just need to learn how to eat veggies. I'm not good at them without pasta and cream sauce.

(12,272 posts)Glad the people you love the most didn't let you down. Heal well and keep those incision sites clean.
YellowRubberDuckie
(19,736 posts)They used superglue to close them up. The only one I'm worried about is the one in my belly button, as it is the only one that is in an awkward spot and is the only one that really hurts. I'll get some triple antibiotic ointment and keep them clean, of course.

The pain is transitory, and the cure is permanent...
Take care and I hope you feel better very fast!

(11,546 posts)You may not need it for long. I had my gall bladder removed a few years ago and found the percocet too be a bit much but I had the surgery laproscopically. Yours was an open surgery (they opened you up)?
I'm on percocet right now too. I had back surgery two weeks ago but my surgical experience wasn't as "fun" as yours.
YellowRubberDuckie
(19,736 posts)I'm only taking it today and after today I will start rotating in Motrin and taking percocet at bedtime.

(11,546 posts)It does make me sleepy too and that's why I don't like taking it during the day. At this point, I don't really have a choice though.
Good luck with the pain relief!

(19,736 posts)...and didn't turn off my phone earlier. I had a bad morning.
And my dachshund is mad at me because I can't pick her up so she is sulking under the bed. I need my Rotten Pru to help me recover and she's ignoring me. Poppin, the chihuahua, is eating it up, though. He's under 10 pounds and is able to jump around like a kid. Pru is 20 and I can't pick her up. It's breaking my heart she won't have cuddle with me.

Those big double walled hospital mugs that double as an insulated pitcher really are awesome, aren't they? They make a great bedside water thingie at home too, so be sure and take one or two with you . . . .
YellowRubberDuckie
(19,736 posts)I don't usually keep that much because I have beverage ADD. But this will be a great iced tea glass. Skip just needs to get ice tomorrow when he goes to get gas.

Doxies are great for helping you recover, too. My doxie was probably about two or three years old when I had my gallbladder removed, and probably didn't understand why he couldn't jump in to my lap, but he had his grandma and uncle to distract him.
Hope you are feeling better than ever in no time, Duckie!
YellowRubberDuckie
(19,736 posts)...and apparently they weren't as potent as the ones for AFTER. I just took one of the new ones from after, and holy crap I'm feeling no pain.
Doxies are great. Although the chihuahua has been more cuddly. Pru's just angry I can't pick her up. But I gave her some of my Thinnies (what they call the low fat/calorie potato chips from Jimmy John's) from dinner, and she is my baby again. Poppin keeps jumping into my lap and giving me kisses. Oh How do people not love dogs? They are the best!

(3,445 posts)I hope you get to feeling better soon. And you're right, the air they pump into you makes you feel awful. I felt like a Macy's balloon for days afterwards.
And I totally agree with you about Mercy. I worked there many moons ago, and it was the best place in the world. I've had all my surgeries there, and I don't care if it is a Catholic hospital, it's the best in town and I wouldn't go anywhere else.
YellowRubberDuckie
(19,736 posts)...I don't care how long gone you are from the church, all the political crap goes away, and sometimes it is comforting to have a priest bless you, take confession and give you absolution...just in case. I don't even know if I believe in any of it anymore, but I was a little scared, and it was comforting.
Thank you for the well wishes!

(19,288 posts)Try culprit foods slowly. I have a friend who still can't tolerate beans or cheese even sans gallbladder.
YellowRubberDuckie
(19,736 posts)Honestly, Mexican foods bothered me less than anything else, and they're supposed to be the worst. A few days before my surgery, I said fuck it all and went to On the Border and had my favorite meal. I didn't even get the slightest diarrhea from it. I didn't over eat and I ate slowly, but I didn't get sick AT ALL.
