Papageorgio wasn't going to make it. She was doing the death howl this morning and had been acting differently then last 10 days or so.
One of her sisters (Bennetti) was from the same litter (we had 4) and she's way more robust and the difference was pronounced in the last week.
That leaves us with three little beasties and one big one.
Kind of a bummer.

(65,191 posts)She was losing weight and started hanging out with the dog almost constantly, like she was looking for protection from the big beast or something.
Her litter mate is ok and same age, another is 3 years older and doing quite well. The 4th is only about 6 like the dog.
We've had them die before, including two because of feline diabetes. But i don't remember one going downhill this fast before.

(21,646 posts)of caring for her. Confusing when it comes on so fast at that age .
Hanging with the dog was probably for protection as she felt ill. They instinctively hide thier pain often doing things like that instead of moaning out loud or any thing that will be noticed as weak/sick. Hug the rest of the beasties .

(70,226 posts)always so hard to watch them fail.
i have 2 old dogs right now. 15 yo terrier sisters. failing in many ways, both going blind.
i hate watching, but am grateful for the chance to hug them a little harder, and enjoy them while i can.
one of them sleeps snuggled up tight to me all night, and i really thank her for the great comfort that has been through many a hard night.
kuddos for doing the right thing. it is hard, but for me, at least, oddly comforting to send them out w/o suffering.
