I wonder if it is as bad as everyone seems to think it is.
I love Poe, I love Cusack, and I love detective stories. As you can see from my avatar, I love ravens. So what's not to love?

(1,999 posts)It gave me a start to see Downton Abbey's John Bates tending bar in Baltimore in the mid 19th century! There were other things that didn't quite ring true, like Edgar having a beard. But as Edgar himself said, "It's a work of fiction!"

(1,999 posts)I liked the movie, but I'm glad that I read the reviews first so I didn't expect much in the way of historical accuracy.
Having said that, it was a good whodunit.

(13,661 posts)AWFUL. And War, Inc. tried to be funny but was unwatchable.
I think the last thing I liked him in was Grosse Point Blank. And Say Anything just bugs the sh*t out of me. And ruined a perfectly good Peter Gabriel song.
Edited to get back to the point: The Raven looks gruesome. Very interesting idea, but I don't need to see (or even have the implication of) people being tortured.
All that aside, I'm interested in your review. I'd be happy if Cusack came back into the land of good movies.

(1,999 posts)I ducked out to the loo during the Pit and the Pendulum scene, though.
It was uneven, and during the ball scene I kept expecting to see Vincent Price. But overall, I liked it.
