(16,880 posts)Ill spare you the music nerd info on whos playing what and the motivation for the song...just listen. The song is about unrequited love, the lyrics are pleading for this woman to understand just how much the singer loves her...listen to the slide gutairs yearning for her! And then, there is the coda...as the slide guitar calms, you hear the sweet tones of a piano, the voice of female: beautiful, elegant, almost explaining herself...and as the slide guitar joins in, it becomes a beautiful duo of sounds...
That is my top Pop/Rock song...the only one to challenge it for me would be Like a Rolling Stone by Dylan.

Miles Archer
(18,837 posts)For a number of reasons.
First, it was the first Stones song that completely broke away from their initial "British Invasion" sound. When I listen to a lot of early Stones, Yardbirds, Kinks, Who, etc., it all starts sounding like the same song.
It was somewhat like the final link in the chain that connected the end of the Brian Jones Stones to the beginning of the Mick Taylor Stones.
It may sound like just another Stones song in 2018, but when it was released, it was so...freaking...WEIRD. So was the band, too.
As the Beatles spread their wings with Rubber Soul and Revolver, so did the Stones with Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, and the associated singles of the era.
"Child of the Moon" (the B-side of JJF) is probably the SINGLE GREATEST Stones song to never make it onto an "official" album (not including the compilations More Hot Rocks, The Complete London Singles, and the "Super Deluxe" edition of GRRRRR).
kwassa
(23,340 posts)and the studio recording is much better than any live version.
Miles Archer
(18,837 posts)...but yes, the studio version beats any live version. Didn't know until years later that there are no electric guitars on the track...it's all over-driven acoustics.
The Who did the same thing...on many of their tracks, the electric is on top of a layer of acoustics. Gives it a very distinctive "punch."
kwassa
(23,340 posts)but haven't found it.
I always thought it more acoustic than electric.

But man, that song was incredible.
BTW, big hair is fucking ugly.
My preferences steer towards Hitsville, USA.
Here's an example of their work:
That's right. Hitsville is Motown!
on edit: sorry! The original recording, from the garage, was better.
Thanks for the spin back in memory lane.

'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try
I can't get no, I can't get no
When I'm drivin' in my car, and the man come on the radio
He's tellin' me more and more about some useless information
Supposed to fire my imagination
I can't get no, oh, no, no, no, hey, hey, hey
That's what I say
I can't get no satisfaction, I can't get no satisfaction
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try
I can't get no, I can't get no
When I'm watchin' my tv and a man comes on and tell me
How white my shirts can be
But, he can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke
The same cigarettes as me
I can't get no, oh, no, no, no, hey, hey, hey
That's what I say
I can't get no satisfaction, I can't get girl reaction
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try
I can't get no, I can't get no
When I'm ridin' round the world
And I'm doin' this and I'm signin' that
And I'm tryin' to make some girl, who tells me
Baby, better come back maybe next week
Can't you see I'm on a losing streak
I can't get no, oh, no, no, no, hey, hey, hey
That's what I say, I can't get no, I can't get no
I can't get no satisfaction, no satisfaction
No satisfaction, no satisfaction
