His Dad is from Puerto Rico. Lot of race mixing and race hiding.

Mars is Puerto Rican and Jewish on his Father's side. While only about 12% of Puerto Ricans self-define as Black, an estimated 46% have significant African heritage.

But, even if that was not true... what difference does it make? Where is the line between being influenced by other cultures and incorporating that influence in a respectful manner and exploiting for personal benefit only?

Well, I see the Kardashians (among others) doing the latter, but Mars fully seems to me in the former group.

Ripping off those who went before you is the bread & butter of pop music. Why take a chance trying to make music that's really new? You won't get any support from the music industry and it probably won't sell, even if it's good.
