(there are lots of both, they have specific numbers after their names but for me the names are good enough LOL)
the black one is Mr Brinks and he is a registered Brangus and he is from New Mexico, the red guy is a Red Angus from Oklahoma. They are both about 20 months old.

(55,019 posts)just got them at the 42 Annual Bull Sale in Willcox last Monday. my sister and I are trying to start a little tradition of going to the sale together. 2 years ago I bought 2 bulls and she bought a pregnant cow.* then we didn't make it last year. this year I was not really planning to buy anything and she wanted to get another cow. sisters at an auction are not conducive to saving money. I bought these and she bought two cows and calves. It is a good thing they don't take credit cards or we would REALLY be in trouble.
*that cow had a boy calf that year and so she got some of her money back already when it was sold, and this year that cow has a heifer (girl) calf. the two new calves are heifers too and if they all look good enough to keep in a year or so she will have increased her herd to 6.

(55,019 posts)I remember when Sonny was a skinny kid with a pony tail! His daughters are getting in on the business now. I remember his Dad well. He was a "Sonny" too.

(55,019 posts)I was just editing the picture source since the photo hosting site changed something and my sig line was messed up. yes they get talked to when they are being fed or are around. they are range cattle so they are normally out and about and not close by all the time.

(9,733 posts)They were the sweetest bovines imaginable. They liked to be petted and were as tame as puppies. The man who rents the pastures now raises Herefords. They are totally indifferent to human beings unless food is being proffered. Your bulls are beautiful. I wish you great happiness and success of them!

(55,019 posts)Herefords and Angus aren't that different tempermentally so it was probably a handling difference. Both can be quite gentle (tame) or crazy dangerous, in my experience.
there is a rude joke among cattle people that goes something to the effect of 3 cows were grazing in a pasture; a Hereford, a Brahma, and a Charolais. It was late at night and a flying saucer zoomed in and was hovering overhead. Those cows reacted as follows: the Brahma threw up her head and tail and jumped three fences running to the next county, the Charolais snorted, put her head down and crashed through three fences on her way out of there. The Hereford looked up at the UFO with her one good eye, laid down and prolapsed.
(obviously told by folks not too fond of Herefords LOL)
