terrrrrrrrrrific show. I was way in the back but it was plenty loud and they played for 2 and half hours, something from every album and 4 really neat covers - Under Pressure with Dave on drums and Taylor Hawkins singing with a Freddy Mercury look-alike. They also did Alice Cooper's Under My wheels and Van Halens "Jump" but to the tune of Lennon's Imagine. Cool mash-up. My favorite cover though was Blitzkrieg Bop. I loooooooooove that song. and it sounds great played loud and fast and live by a rock and roll band.
One thing (among many things) I admire about the Foos is they don't gouge you on t-shirt and other merch prices. Regular Ts with tour dates on the back were 25 bucks. 3/4 sleeve shirts were only 30. They had some for a little more and some for a little less (kids sizes and such) and a ton of peripheral items (Tour-only vinyl LP black on black version of the new album. still kicking myself for not getting that). I got a FF patch for my battle vest for 5 bucks. Those prices are in keeping with the small bands I see at local clubs. So my hat's off to the Foo Fighters for that.
By comparison, I think Judas Priest shirts are going for 45~50 bucks. Metallica was getting 60. Maybe if I could go back in time and re-purchase my Monsters of Rock Metallica Metal Up Your Ass in my current size I'd pay 60 but I haven't even liked anything they've done since the $5.98 ep. Not paying that for a weird wired world whatever shirt it is now. ANd if I could do that, I'd go back a few more years and get a Screaming For Vengeance shirt from Priest too.
anyway, if you get a chance to go, do it. They tear it up.

(33,643 posts)My only time of seeing them. Never seen FF but would love to, dude's are great.
Other classic rock bands I saw around that time:
Day On The Green #2: Journey, Black Sabbath, Cheap Trick, Molly Hatchet (1980)
Iron Maiden (Piece of Mind, 1983 I think)
Dio (Sacred Heart, 1985 I think)
Rush (Grace Under Pressure 1984 & Power Windows 1986 I think)
Day On The Green #1: Scorpions, Ratt, Y&T, Metallica (1985)
I also went to Monsters of Rock at Candlestick Park, SF.

(12,132 posts)I saw JP many times back then - wish I still fit into any of those shirts lol. Rush Grace Under Pressure tour was the first concert I ever took this girl I liked to see. One of our first dates not counting sneaking off for lunch from vo-tech school. After the show she said "I think I really like Rush. That was a great show." This July will be our 32nd anniversary. She liked Rush enough I didn't hold it against her she didn't wanna go see Iron Maiden with me. She did go to Dio with me (Opening band, Accept, kicked ass too). And she went with me again a few years ago to see Heaven and Hell. One of the last shows Dio did before he died. And oddly enough, my first time seeing Tony Iommi play live.
Events conspired against us last night and she couldn't go with me to see the Foo Fighters so I sold her ticket for enough to get her a shirt and me some stuff.

I saw them in 2011 for the Wasting Light tour, excellent show. Their documentary about the band and making that album is very good. Back and Forth is the name of the film.

(2,343 posts)And posted about it! It was a really cool show! How about that rising platform Taylor Hawkins played on?!

(12,132 posts)I didn't remember that from the last time I saw them but that was several years ago. The opening act was the Struts and missed all of them as the lines to get in to the fairgrounds where out to the highway and it took me half an hour once I got the location just to get parked. I could hear them somewhat as I was walking up to the amphitheater but couldn't tell if I was missing anything.
did they do the same covers at your show?
we were on a cruise all last week so I didn't see anything here for a while. I'll go look for your post. Cheers!
