(From Wikipedia)
A cult film, often referred to as a cult classic, is a film with a cult following, obscure or unpopular with mainstream audiences, and often revolutionary or ironically enjoyed.
Sometimes, the definition is expanded to exclude films that have been released by major studios or have big budgets, try specifically to become cult films, or become accepted by widespread audiences and critics.
Cult films are defined as much by audience reaction as they are content.

(27,820 posts)You're right, you only get 10 choices here.
However, over at "Similar Worlds" you can ask a question, on any topic, and if you include a poll, you can have an unlimited number of poll choices, which is great, imo.
(Similar Worlds is a social network website, much smaller than DU, but worth checking out)

It even has a cameo by Frank Zappa.
It also has a couple of their best songs.

Trollhunter sounds interesting.
Yes... Nice memory ya got there.

(12,132 posts)We just watched Harold and Maude with our granddaughter and her boyfriend the other day. It was always my wife's favorite movie and one of the first movies we watched together when we started dating. We skipped class and rented it back in VHS days lol. She was very excited to find it on Blu-ray and had to show it to our granddaughter (who just graduated high school). GD and her BF were surprised how much they liked "an old movie" lol.
I have learned better than to ask my wife if that's why she showed so much interest in me back in the day - we were in college but she is 7 years older than me.
red dog 1
(27,820 posts)(Maude was MUCH older than Harold)
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)that may be why she gave me the stink eye when I was dumb enough to mention it...me insinuating she was THAT much older
She also is well aware of my love for Helen Mirren so it could be professional jealousy at this point too.

(27,820 posts)White Chicks is one I never heard about, but I loved Keenen Ivory Wayans' work on "In Living Color"
Film critic Richard Roeper put the film at # 1 on his list of the worst films of 2004, and it was nominated for five Razzies, including Worst Picture, Worst Actress for the Wayans brothers in drag, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay and Worst Screen Couple. (Didn't win any Razzies)
Those sort of critical reviews make me want to see it.
lunasun
(21,646 posts)Henry is loosely based on Henry Lee Lucas and his friend Otis is loosely based on the kidnapper responsible for the first milk carton alert I forgot his real name . It's very real in a dull and violent way
Semi -Reality horror cult
White chicks is sooo bad and inappropriately hilarious it demands multiple viewings in my opinion
Wayans have said a WC II may come out ...it just better have a T Crews lip sync scene ! Some will see no humor in it I'm sure but a second generation is now into this cult great. So many teens love it they really should do a wcII but again it's so wrong maybe not the time
Creepy 2000 maniacs is old drive in gore about the south this too may not play to all
And I forgot Fritz is an X rated animation so this is also not for everyone oops
Is Freaks wrong too ? I decided not to add it but a classic cult to me also along with the short Andalusian Dog

(27,820 posts)It's considered to be a "cult film" because it has a "following" the way "The Big Lebowski" does.
Other cult films not mentioned much are:
"The Room"
"Barbarella"
"Johnny Guitar"
"Showgirls"
"Fight Club"
Midwestern Democrat
(806 posts)probably considered the most prestigious, most anticipated cinema event of the year by serious cinema fans/critics - directors at the level of Kubrick, Welles, Fellini, Bergman, Allen, Scorsese, etc don't really have "cult films" - every single thing these men did receives serious scholarly attention.
