Help me out here: how much wildlife in the house before its time to clean the place?

Background:

Family member: You have snakes in your house. You should clean this place.

Me: I don't have snakes in my house. There's one snake. He keeps the bugs down.

Family member: Clean this place and get an exterminator for the bugs.

Me: The snake could die if it eats poisoned bugs.

Family member: You should clean this place. You have snakes in your house. Hire an exterminator.

Overlooking the fact that this relative is calling me a liar by insisting there are snakes when there is really only just one, which I like because it is a natural form of pest control, how often should a person clean house?

I'm thinking about cleaning before the seasons change to cold again.

Otherwise the old ones just get clogged with dead flies and dust and the spiders don't have good places to build new webs.

The only spider I object to is the one that lives under my sink. She comes out at night and I've gotten into her web once or twice in the dark. I get my husband to catch her and put her outside but one of her youngsters takes her place. So now the routine is when she gets big enough to be annoying we release her to the wild and let a baby one move in - about twice a year.

My friends in Miami FL had a gecko running around the house (walls and so forth) and it was kind of neat. They said it was for insects and bugs, which I can believe, being that I've seen the roaches/water bugs in Miami FL and they are just about big enough to carry off a person (just kidding)!

If I found a snake in my house, I would never be able to sleep again! I think I'd have to move

I've got a big king snake that hangs out in the yard and he's OK as long as he doesn't come inside.

I put him outside, only because I was afraid my dog would kill him.

Otherwise, I would have left him.

I have had it with these motherfucking snakes in this motherfucking house!!!!

Umm... sorry to tell you this but if you have a snake that you did not get from a pet shop or keep in a cage, it's time to clean house.

On the plus side, I feel a lot better about the piles of blurays around the entertainment center in my living room and the light coating of dust on shelves now. Thanks for that.
