(1,183 posts)She volunteered at the Town Park, so I could have swimming lessons each summer
She volunteered to help with Craft sessions at the park, so I could participate...I fondly remember hot summer days, learning to soak reeds in the cool shady stream so we could learn to weave baskets; and we made leather wallets with the vinyl loop trim.
She volunteered to be Dressmaker for my Dance Instructor....so I could have Tap, Ballet and Toe dance lessons.....made ALL the costumes by hand and on her wonderful sewing machine for ALL the students. . She previously had never sewn...taught herself. We all posed for pictures, in those costumes, each year in front of the incredibly beautiful Rose bush that grew in front of our house.
She volunteered to work in the pastor/principles office, so I could attend the Catholic school from K thru 9th grade.
She volunteered, along with my Father with the American Legion and Auxiliary, for their many events across the state of CT.....the two of them had huge attendance at their wakes and funerals, because of how selfless they were with their time and energy.
I remember my Dad, a flyer on a B-29, returning home....getting a job as a Fireman in town and the day his paycheck was just over $100....we celebrated.
I sure wish I could talk/hug with them now. I've had such a good life because of their influence.
My Mom and Dad were such an inspiration......very special people.
