When you get a credit card,
on the back of it is a phone number to call if the card is lost or stolen.

When you get a credit card,
put that phone number in your phone 'contacts' and write it down somewhere.

When the card is lost or stolen,
phone that number immediately.

Posting an inquiry to a forum and waiting for suggestions is not the way to handle the situation --
in my humble opinion.

I called my bank's local branch and they put a hold on it. Here's the story; A woman (a good friend, and I trust her completely) did my grocery shopping for me. When she got the groceries in, I asked her for the receipt so I could enter it in my checkbook register. (It's a debit card and I do my banking online, so I don't get a statement). She said she gave it to me, wrapped in the receipt. I don't recall that and I've been turning my house upside down looking for it. I had to give up a day to "card search". I even called her to ask if she was sure she gave it to me. (That took some doing, because I was afraid she'd be insulted). Nope.

I'm a bit of a scatterbrain and sometimes I can't talk and function at the same time, so it could be anywhere or nowhere.

Better to do that than go crazy looking for it. Some banks charge a fee for a replacement card, but they might also waive the fee if you ask nicely.

Some people will turn them into management thinking they are being helpful, but that's often not the case. If you find one and call the number, they will deactivate it and contact the owner.
