(20,190 posts)It's not a powerful storm in terms of wind speed, but it is slow moving, which means lots of rain and flooding. Parts of Oahu have already gotten 31 inches.

(86,619 posts)with a storm that big hovering over them, it's not likely they will have any service available for a while. And what if the cell towers are trashed? Might be a while.
Meanwhile, hoping all are safe and well.

(32,639 posts)They can't get a flight out, I guess the planes have been grounded. No flights in or out for a couple days anyway.
They called home (to Pittsburgh) and said the honeymoon has been great. Might as well stick around a few more days.
Good luck everyone and stay safe!

(32,975 posts)"loads of uncertainty as hurricane weakens and waits to decouple....
weakening category one or perhaps 2 hurricane lane is about 150 miles south of oahu, moving, slower than a person can run , to the north. the uncertainty comes in when it will turn west, before or after it makes landfall on oahu or maui. windds are slowly weaking and torrential rain is still a serious threat.
high level winds are forcing the top of the storm to the northeast, and low level winds are forcing the bottom half of the storm to the west. eventually the storm will seperate into 2 parts moving in opposite directions, killing it.
the question is whether this separating will occur before the storm reaches an island.,
