Did what I could... to no avail.

I said I was going to house-train these dogs. Didn't happen.

Not only are they not house-trained, they are challenging authority--and not just mine. They challenge my guy's authority all the time. I think he feels that because he's out of the house for work that when he's home he has to give them their way when he is home. They take over his lap even when he says no and he doesn't put his foot down.

The female dogs both went into heat in the last week, and the boy dogs (despite being fixed) have been all over them.

So despite wiping up pee and poo and blood spots all over the place, I have been trying to separate the two males who are constantly fighting over which one of them will connect with the females.

It's exhausting and depressing.

I really thought you were making progress, but I'd not realized the females hadn't been spayed. hlthe2b Sep 2018 #2

It must be hard to teach adult dogs who have had their own way their whole life.

I learned the hard way that you have to establish dominance over dogs in all things. When you are eating, make sure that you and your man eat first and finish eating before the dogs get fed.
When you go through a door, you and your man go first. Do not let the dogs push you aside as they try to get out first.
As a routine matter, go through basic commands of sit and down with them everyday, as a reminder that you are in charge.

That is surely not helping anything and surely adding to the challenge.

If they are not listening to you specifically then I think the best thing to do is bring in a trainer (but have the females neutered asap unless you intend a litter).

Sorry, your previous posts seem to suggest you'd made progress.

When the younger two were pups, my guy was laid up w/ back surgery, so he didn't take them out. (Now they won't go out when it's rainy or cold or hot...) And it seems the younger two have trained the older two (who were somewhat trained) to want his lap, want his food.

I get that he was laid up w/ his injury, but why keep dogs you aren't going to train? I honestly think he has deprived them of their nature--which I think is to please their master.
