(And I don't say that because I'm from the bay Area too)
Thanks for posting it!

(27,872 posts)Buck Owens, Merle Haggard and his band, The Strangers, helped create the Bakersfield Sound, "which is characterized by the twang of Fender Telecaster & the unique mix with the traditional country steel guitar sound, new vocal harmony styles in which the words are minimal, and a rough edge not heard on the more polished Nashville sound recordings of the same era."
(Wikipedia)
It's ironic that the guy who wrote "Okie From Muskogee" was actually from Bakersfield, CA.
("Okie from Bakersfield" just doesn't sound right)
Actually, he was born in nearby Oildale, in a railroad boxcar his father remodeled into a house, and later expanded it by building a bathroom, a second bedroom, a kitchen, and a breakfast nook in the adjacent lot.
Merle died of double pneumonia at his Shasta County ranch on April 6, 2016, his 79th birthday.
His influence on other musicians is enormous.
The Grateful Dead performed "Mama Tried" over 300 times.

Buck Owens, et al. 'Bakersfield Sound' was to Country Music what John Fogerty's CCR was to Southern Rock. That's a fact, Jack.

Don't forget Kinky Friedman...He's from Texas!
[Even though he'd be the first one to admit that his music isn't "Southern Rock"]
