I just logged in to my Gmail and then I got one of those messages asking me to confirm that it was me logging in a few minutes ago. I noticed that the IP address was completely different but I had in fact just logged in. Is this normal?

(8,854 posts)Good. I don't need a static address. There were just a couple things that happened that made me nervous. I got an email saying that my Verizon bill was ready and when i looked at the bill it was about HALF of what it usually is. I'm not complaining but something is amiss. Then I got the notification about the login and noticed the change in IP address and I got a bit more nervous.

(4,066 posts)Make sure that you check your security though. Google should have a link there for that.
Look at where that new IP address is physically located. Make sure it's on your internet provider and close by.
Never hurts to check

(34,195 posts)Would I unplug the modem from my laptop,
or unplug the modem from the wall electrical outlet?
Thanks

(34,195 posts)Guessing disconnecting the coax cable from where it enters the modem would also work.
